anyone have experience with a plan company that offers plans that are accurate? for a children's rocking horse style wooden toy for them to ride on.

Im coming out of the fog, Im off the pain killers and on the mend, hopefully can get back to the shop within a week or so.

thankyou gentlemen, while that jeep is tempting, and looks like I can handle it easily enough, that motorcycle looks like it will frustrate me but it is very cool. thanx for the help, Ill be ordering the plans shortly.

Darren was kind enough to show me and send me patterns for a motorcycle rocker
I don't have templates or Cnc so it's all old school here
I figured get the rockers made and the rest will be easy enough
Band saw blade popped yesterday so cleaned up machine and put new tires and blade today
I had an 8x11 printout then I had 1 inch graph paper and slowly drew patter enlarged
I made the bottom curve with a 3 foot bendable metal drafting ruler
Tapped in nails to hold bend like I said old school
My main goal was to get rocker to stand level and top to be level
Done today top is level to attach deck
But rocker was off a bit more than a 16th
A bit more sanding tomoorrow
I'll get to template bits and hardwoods in a few weeks
I have many small projects I want to get going and dinished

It's a slow go old age fat and sore muscles
I got the base finished have to sand each part before assembly and I have to assemble as I go along to see exactly how to measure out a part
I glued up 12/4 basswood for the body as I need approx 30 in x 15
I'm going to deviate somewhat from darrens plans because too many curves and too little talent
It's easier for me to cut shapes on seat then manipulate that heavy body on bandsaw
I needed my neighbor to help me move a 13 foot 9 inches wide 12/4 board is bass
Too hard to maneuver in my small area
Glued up some bass sandwiched between Spanish cedar to make the seat
Most other parts after this are 3/4 inch and are attached to body

On base I secured it with pocket screws
Base is all sapele
I intend on using maple Purple Heart oak walnut as other species for various parts
I have a new helper
He will be more valuable to me when he can walk and poop in the toilet

Glued up 12/4 basswood for body
Very heavy has to trim off excess first before attempting to cut to size
Here's where I'm at
I changed up plans
I made seat area flat and I'll try to cut dado on seat bottom and cut to shape
I need to do some tender hand sanding on rear fender to get a bit better shape
I'm not happy with this project
While I know it's for my grandson
This is a big block of time
I will be on this for a while
And me and my bandsaw aren't friends

that big kahuna chunk of wood was heavy to manipulate on bandsaw

A bit more progress
Got the front fork done besides plate and maybe I'll turn something that resembles a headlight
1 inch dowels for foot rest and handle bars
Trimmed the seat down I think it looks better now
Still need a lot of sanding before I glue or assemble anything
Here's where I'm at
Please feel free to comment

Don't sugar coat any comments

please keep in mind I don't have exact measurements for some parts I had to adjust as i go along

No sugar coating here - I think its turning out really well! Looking forward to updates! BTW, adjust as you go? I thought that was the way t was supposed to happen! :ROFLMAO:

I think it's looking good too, I like your variation of this. The measurements are in the sketchup file for the forks & platform I sent you, let me know if they aren't, I'll send you the right version. ;)

I believe I got it all from you as of now....the entire motor and rear wheel assembly, Im not following any plans you sent, Im just shaping it all as best I could fit it all in.
I cant cut motor parts in detail. I cant inlay motor parts.
Im going to attempt to turn 2 wheels out of spanish cedar.....not sure how to do wheels on both sides,

You may be able to chuck up to what would be the spacer on each side rather than them being separate pieces on each side of the wheel. Would give you something to flip it around to chuck up when doing the opposite side and keep the tailstock in place too.

Im thinking along the lines of using my bottle stopper chuck, screw into blocks/spaces on each side, turn one side, and end, then flip over do other side, as close to symmetry as I can get....the screw hole from the chuck wont matter since I will be attaching the wheels with glue and screws. (the will not turn) not sure how the bottle stopper chuck will work....last resort, Ill go with plastic wheels,
back is acting up again, so tomorrow I will go visit my grandson, elen is recovering from eye surgery she had tuesday, so its a good day to chill. making the fork today and it fit, gave me a little confidence I need to continue project.

I would love to get you and my son together so you could explain the finer points of a good high end cnc machine and wether or not my son would think I can operate one.He can build anything, and Id use it constantly. something the 2 of us can enjoy together...hes moving into a very very large home. Im not supposed to say anything, the deal isnt closed yet, but he sold his house, and he has a ton of room for a nice large cnc machine in his garage, and I can take one fo the 7 bedrooms to stay overnight ocne the machine is in.....one step at a time...I can do very well with signs, I know dozens of store owners, quilters, 100s of teachers, Id find a good use for it

Allen, do you have a 4-jaw chuck for your lathe? If so, you should be able to drill a hole with a Forstner bit where you want the center of each wheel and use the chuck in expansion mode to hold the blank while turning.

It's looking good so far...no sugar-coating needed.
