Friday 05/01/2026 That was a QUICK month !

Just put my gal pal on a plane so she's out of country for a few weeks so today I'll be working on a few chores for the Vet center. Trying to get some donations to get the work shop off the ground. We got the space cleaned out and have been planning material costs to enclose it. It gonna be 45 foot x 35 foot. The big cost is gonna be equipment. I am sending out letters for donations. Got my first turned down e-mail yesterday. I won't mention the company because they just said they were temporarily out of funds and to apply later. I got a few projects for the 3D printer to get done also. Sat is the drone club in the morning so a little flying time is in order. Sunday and Monday I'll be office time @ the vet center. working on claims

Had a nice week. Got the trash hauled off after really thinking of all the good stuff I was throwing away.9Who needs dried up paint cans?) Have my garden raised all planted with flowers, herbs and vegetables. Fel good about that as I was beginning to wonder about our weather allowing me to do that job. Got most of lawn mowed but had to stop and adjust deck of mower. Seems hitting tree roots is not conductive to fine operating equipment. Tried to talk better half into new mower but to date nod dice. Just readjust my priorities and move on.
LOML hip healing up well. That is a BIG relief. Would enjoym her cooking again.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
Peace,
David

Started my week having to bury Socks, our tomcat. He got a tick bite and contracted bobcat fever while we were up in KC. He was a good cat and will be missed. I’ll have to find a couple more kittens this summer or fall so that our other cat can train them.

Still working on smoke removal, but have flooring samples and should be making some decisions on that and paint soon.

May start working on the bed frames for the girls room. And have a headboard to update for our grandsons room.

Still full steam ahead in the garden. Going to attempt to get a trailer load of branches to the recycling station and return with three yards of mulch. My trailer backing skills need a lot of work and where it ends up is sometimes a crap shoot...the neighbors have been known to pull out their lawn chairs to watch and last year one of them, a retired army CWO stopped his car (because I was blocking the street), got out and backed the trailer in for me in about a minute. I guess he wanted to get home. Stay safe and healthy folks.

I'm planning to leave my flatbed at my daughter's house for them to use for a few weeks to clear up their lawn and get things moved. I'd probably be better off teaching my grandson how to back the trailer than my daughter, then my daughter, then her other half. Most likely in that order. ;)

My daughter can maneuver the 5th wheel and he goose-neck better than many I've seen. She can also launch a boat practically before you know she was there. Like surfers and gymnasts, some folks brains just work different than mine. :D

Well, my daughter might surprise me, but then again, I know her track record. ;)

Finally got some rain; almost an inch. We are still dry and considered in extreme drought but at least we had some rain. It sure beats dragging the hose out to the garden every day. We flood irrigate so it takes a bit of time to do.

We have been adding compost to the beds as we plant. That two year old black gold sure smells rich when you dig it out of the bin. One of the best things I ever did was start composting.

Turned a few more bowls this week and finished one project for an article. Still haven't taken the finished pictures but will next week.

Not much else going on. Wifey takes off for a week next Monday so I will be batching it.

I'm kind of making things up as I go this weekend. I'll probably finish l loading up my pickup for a dump run early next week. (I'd rather go on a weekday when it's not as busy.) We got rain last night, which was the first we've gotten in a long time. I'm happy for several reasons, one of which is that I can postpone mowing the lawn for a few days, lol. I don't hate mowing the lawn as much as I used to. I got a new EGO lawn mower about a month ago, and it's a lot lighter and easier to use than my old Honda gas mower. I've got a few other minor projects going on around the house and yard that aren't critical, so they'll get done when I feel like it. I got the natural gas conversion installed on my new Blackstone earlier this week and have really been enjoying learning how to use it. (Thanks, YouTube!) I'm sure there will be more griddle cooking going on this weekend. I'm also done repainting all the parts to my old Hi-Lift jack, so I'll probably get it put back together this weekend.

I've got some music stuff to work on this weekend. I updated the firmware on my guitar rig a few days ago, which typically means I need to go through everything I use for a show and adjust things to taste. I've also got some new songs to practice for the band. After nearly two months off, band things are getting started back up for some upcoming shows.

Ever since I was a kid (long before I could drive), I understood how trailers react when backing them up. My dad was very good at it and I learned a lot watching him. When I'd go camping with my granddad (who was clueless about backing a trailer), I'd always get out and coach him as he backed the camp trailer into parking spaces. Now that I'm well into adulthood, I can't seem to back up a trailer to save my life, lol.: I've just not done enough of it to get the feel from the driver's seat. I write it off to lack of practice because I've never owned a trailer.

If you really want some practice, try backing a 4 wheel hay trailer. :)

One of the biggest butt chewings as a young boy I ever got was when I was trying to back a 4 wheel trailer full of silage up to dump it. After that I hooked up to a trailer and practiced until I could park it anywhere you wanted it. I also had to back a feed wagon about 200' and into the shed twice a day when I was Dairying. So I'm pretty comfortable doing it but WOULD need practice with the 4 wheel trailer

I fished bass tournaments locally for years, at one lake, we launched my boat and docked it and were talking with a gentleman and after watching us all launch our boats, he was embarrassed to launch his as we did it so quickly, he asked me if I would launch his, of course I said yes and not to worry, we did it every week, many times a week. That evening a storm came in and we pulled 25 boats out in less than 20 minutes, practice makes perfect 👌

Just the normal early morning run and working on house projects and some yard work today. Sunday our pickleball club is gathering with a potluck at the courts. Currently we have over 40 signed up to play and eat.

Yesterday I took the day off and played golf with my normal foursome. It was the first outing of the season for me. I planned to get there early and hit a few balls but that did not work out as I got caught in a cattle drive for a few miles. Barely made my tee time. Oh yeah, I also need to power wash the underside of my truck. It was a large herd that they moved and the road was covered in cow crap. The photo was taken in a good spot of the run. Trust me, it was much worse along most of it.

one of the tests to get my cdl I had to back a 48 foot trailer 1000 feet in a lane of cones. The lane was 10 feet wide. Another required me to back around 6 barrels that alternating which side of the barrel the trailer was on. I'm pretty good at backing now.
I had to do the the backup test too only I had to back it around a corner and up to a dock. Started backing and didn't stop until I just bump the dock. The examiner crawled up into the truck for rest of the driving test and said you've done that before haven't ya. I told her nope first time it was with a trailer on the truck.

2 months tactical driving training in the Army, you either learned it or sent off to infantry.
