Friday 1/10/25

I will be going to my friends shop to try swapping out his computer with my old Mach3 computer. If mine works on his machine and his old one does not I will bring his old one back home to refresh it with a new Mach3 setup.

I am also still working on my machine and setting up and configuring Centroid. So far things are looking GREAT, but it is certainly a slippery slope. No turning back.

No snow but it has been cold. Woodstove is doing a GREAT job keeping us warm.

Hibernate till spring thaw. About 2 inches of snow last night. More coming. Just glad I'm not in California, my prayers for those out there. Still fighting a cold but it is better. I'm such a nice guy I also shared with my better half. She is not pleased. Tonight root for the Buckeyes in CFP game.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
David

Don, did you get snow? Saw some pictures of it in Arizona.
I am beat. First week back of school, last night drove to CJ's school to see him get his FFA jacket. Supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow, we will see. Great day to use the old joke on my students that we are going home after lunch. (don't we do that every day????? ). If we get that much, will put on the back blade I converted for snow duty on and plow the driveways. All I did was cut a slit in a piece of pipe and slipped it over the cutting edge of the back blade. Thus it doesn't "dig" into sod and move as much gravel out of the driveway. Welded a couple chain links on the back of the pipe and bolted it tight to the blade. Works great and doesn't scratch the garage cement pad like the original blade did.
Got the air bubble out of the radiator of our boiler system so we are back to toasty warm. 20 degrees out this morning, amazing how warm that feels after zero weather and below 0 windchills. You all stay safe and as healthy as you can.

Don, did you get snow?
No that would have been up north. Down here in the valley snow is about as rare as hens teeth. I think I have seen it on the grounds once in 20 years and that lasted about an hour...lol
I am slowly on the mend. I don't feel bad but the pneumonia has left me with no lung capacity. I can get winded just taking a load of laundry from one end of the house to the other. I have been told it could be several month before I am fully recovered. I'll start back to the gym maybe next week to try to speed the process. Pam and I are going out to dinner tomorrow night and a concert at the Musical Instrument Museum. Peter Asher is putting on a show. For those who don't know him he was half of Peter and Gordon in the 60's.

I spent last night getting the tractor hydraulics fixed, edge tamers on the front bucket, swapped the backhoe for the box blade, and started up the wood boiler. Overnight we got 4" - 5" of snow. Supposed to get up into the low 40's the next couple of days, so hopefully it doesn't stick around too long.

I got some replacement bifold door top pins, I broke one installing the other day, so plan to finish hanging those on the closets at the guest house, then on to caulk and paint touch-ups. I'm sure SWMBO will want to hang pictures and work on decor too.

Other than that I need to do some shop and garage clean-up. I have a trailer full of things to unload, some goes to the garage, others to the shop. May load some other things back onto the trailer for storage or to take to donation or garage sales.

We got a light dusting of snow yesterday, but it was gone by midday. Now we've just got cold temps (28º at 11:30 this morning.) My main plans for the weekend are to stay inside, play guitar, make a few tweaks to my guitar rig, and do a bit of guitar maintenance. Our next show is in a week and we're doing it as a trio (without our second guitarist), so I need to make sure my chops are up for the task. There won't be another guitarist to hide behind when I make mistakes, lol. :D

And Ted's post reminded me that I'll most likely be helping LOML put away the remaining Christmas decorations. :santa:

tried to work in shop, too many mistakes, due to ice cold out there and lack of focus, so I came in. we have a 70th birthday party tomorrow night and I think we are both oik to attend, stuffy nose is not a reason to stay home....maybe see the kids tomorrow morning, then sunday, depending on how I feel, and how elen feels, we might head up to foxwoods in conneticut a day early, we have a corner suite booked for 4 nights,we can stay in mystic one night and we always enjoy going to mystic pizza for dinner while there, and roaming around the town and surrounding area, we also booked another comped room for our friends who will come up tuesday....we all have to babysit and they cant get out of monday babysitting duties.
so Im just looking foward to getting out of here, happy weather will not be an issue.
I think I need to take a break from woodworking anyway.....always rushing in this cold, and make too many errors and then it becomes misery.
lets go buckeyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my daughters husbands family are all rooting for texas tonight as the new fiancee of my daughters bil lives in texas and is a huge texas fan, actually impressive as she knows everything about the team...but ohio state all the way.....and I like notredame also, one of my fav college teams, but this has to be ohios year.

4° this morning. Day's high was 21°. About 4~5" of snow on the ground from earlier this week. Supposedly another 3~5" coming tonight.

Got all the Xmas decorations down and into the barn this afternoon. Replaced a shear pin on the snow blower and topped off the tractor's fuel tank. Ready for tomorrow morning.

Been the coldest winter (so far) in quite a few years. Hasn't been above freezing since before Xmas - mostly days in the lower 20s and nights in the low teens. Winter in NE Ohio... Plan to stay in until next Tuesday, when I have a Dr's appointment.

Oh yeah, also got the 11 year-old dog to the vet for her second Librella shot. Seems to help her mobility quite a bit.

We have gone to Florida for the last 3 years, no rough winters in Michigan, staying home this year and, well, it’s a true winter so far, so I guess we are to blame 😆

We are in the waiting for snow doomsday scenario. The media is already door to door and wall to wall covering what might happen. I happened to catch a segment discussing the responsibility of renters. Did you know that renters are supposed to keep their doors and windows closed during snow storms so that snow and ice does not blow inside? I was shocked to learn that. And, I also learned that if you are a renter and snow and ice does blow in you should try to get it up off the floor so that you do not slip on it. Who would have thought that? I don't think there are many people as stupid as the people in the media giving advice.

The only good thing is that we are not being bombarded with school closings since the snow is arriving tonight and tomorrow.

We prepped for the impending doomsday scenario by buying a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk. For lunch I made a pot of potato soup. The leftovers will be in the refrigerator for eating during the doomsday scenario. Tonight we are using some leftover baked chicken from last night's dinner to make a broccoli/chicken casserole. I always enjoy this casserole and it reheats well.

If we get 1/64" of snow there will not be enough to make snow angels or go sledding so we will probably stay inside.

Hunker down and close your doors and windows if you are renting. :giggle:

Some serious hibermaking (a term created by our friends at Lee Valley) is underway here.
I’m making good progress on the little drawer cabinet for the Mission desk. Next step is to mill some hard maple down for the drawer boxes themselves. Before that, I’m going to pause on the weekend to do some shop upgrades: assemble the various parts of the basic dust collection piping that I hopefully now have on site, then, set up, study and practice with the Leigh dovetail jig.👍
Next in the queue, after the desk is done, is to get back at the kitchen cabinet work that was suspended last spring to make way for outdoor work.
Have a good one!
