Friday 17Feb23

A bit of a broken record around here - usual stuff.

I have a short shop task this morning, then Bobbie and I will drive to Boston for lunch. After that, back home for a nap! We're supposed to get rain this afternoon along with colder air drifting in, so the fireplace will get some action later.

Saturday should be shop time on a couple of small projects, then some NASCAR.

Sunday will be the usual routine of me preparing brunch, then being as lazy as possible and watching the Daytona 500.

Got some heavy duty mechanical work to do this weekend. (Gotta put a rear end in my recliner.:oops::cool::dunno::rofl::rofl:)

Snowing right now. We are going to a gunshot (first time in probably 10-15 years) with Tess, Eric and Audrey. Eric knows a guy that makes ballistic vests and has a contract with the Army. He will be there and Eric wanted me to meet him. So Lou has to get up early tomorrow! Otherwise, a light duty weekend this weekend. You all be safe and stay healthy (be careful out there Don).

Doing a little price checking today. Got a call last night for a 24x30 inch cutting board and some cheese boards. Don't have lumber in shop so have to see what prices are now. Quoted a price but got to thinking wonder what the lumber prices are now. May have to rethink my quote. Can't just make stuff for free now a days. Last I paid was $6.85 for black walnut, maple 6.83, cherry 2.88. Bet it's a tad bit higher now.Don't really care if I get the work or not. It's to cold right to work in shop.
Plans for the weekend involve doing as lttle as possibe till race time tomorrow. Guess I could finish up my work list from yesterday which had nothing on it.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
David

Concrete plant is having issues this morning, so may be Monday before they pour, if they aren’t resolved soon.

My wife’s grandpa took a hard turn over the last few weeks, so we’ve been spending time up at the nursing facility with him. He is their oldest resident at the moment, and they’ve been taking really good care of him.

I think all of the vfd parts may be here today and tomorrow, so may spend some time wiring and setting it up before mounting the motor.

I plan to get some seedlings started in the greenhouse, may work on a plant bench.

OH! I need to also start on coat hook project. ;)

It's february, so need to work on some songs with my buddies for the RPM Challenge.
More shop clean up.
One thing I need to work on is organizing all of my Luthier tools. My little Ovation repair project created quite a disorganized array of tools, so I need to figure out the best way to keep them organized and not just 'set it on the bench'.

After the hurricane goes home with mommy we will pack as we are leaving for 5 days for a restful trip to the Amish area of pennsylvania
Of course the first couple of nights we will be in casino to blow off some steam and restlessness
Will order wood to get started on next bookcase when I get home

Had a bit of anxiety last night when my daughter called with pain in belly thought the baby might be coming a few weeks early
All settled down so we are going
If she needs us we are only a few hours away
I need to get out of here

Darren, I'm sending my best for your wife's grandpa.

Brent, this workbench was a game-changer for my lutherie tools. I covered the benchtop with neoprene wetsuit material. The pegboard has been very handy for tool storage. https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-...benches/48-in-workbench-with-light-58695.html

I just got back from Urgent Care to get checked out. My left hip started hurting Monday and has been progressively getting worse. I can sit down OK but standing or walking is excruciatingly painful. I honestly haven't hurt this bad since I broke my back in 2001. If the meds they prescribed this morning don't get me straightened out, I'll be going to see a ortho doc who specializes in hip stuff. Needless to say, I have no exciting plans for the weekend.

Darren, I hope grandpa is resting comfortably and Vaughn, that you get some relief for that hip pain.

I am almost stalled on how to move this partial kitchen reno forward and conscious of prime winter workshop time slipping by. I think I’m going to put together a scale model to help us visualize how the parts come together and get this thing moving again. One run of cabinets along an 11’ wall involves stove, fridge, upper and lower cabinets, a range hood, a pantry unit and framing for a heat pump air handler unit above the fridge.

So after Morgantown and casino we headed over to Amish area and the Amish view hotel
Last night there was a fire in the hotel
We were woken by screeching alarm and by the time we called front desk and put on shoes the hallways were full of smoke
Made my eyes water and killed my throat
The hotel fire is on the internet and local news
I believe a few people were taken in abulances
There had to be 30 fire trucks on scene
Thankfully a few hours later the hotel found other lodging for us but we left this morning

and Id like to mention, the response from firemen, firewomen, emts, volunteers, was incredible at 2 am. mountains of people there to assist, Im guessing since the hotel was half booked and most people there were seniors in their 70s,. the response was big.
the owner opened the bbq restaurant next door so everyone had a place to stay warm, served coffee and softdrinks, had some muffins, not sure what else bevcasue I didnt get up to see, as I was exhausted, and promised us all he would get us lodging quickly, which he did.
we all got free buffet breakfasts courtesy of hotel at another restaurant, and this morning they escorted us in to hotel as every door and window was left open to get our belongings.
last night the firemen came to all of us and asked if anyone needed their meds out of their rooms, and ofcourse many did, and they took names and room numbers and got it all.

incredible great people, everyone who responded, cant compliment them enough. I suspect the hotel will be down for a week or so, as the smell was pretty overwhelming still this morning with every single window open, one of the only hotels I know that actually has windows that open.

unfortunately, I purchased a box of whoopie pies for me and my hurricane grandson, even though Im diabetic, one last hurrah for me, I left them there when I rushed to pack up this morning, as the girl was just standing in our doorway waiting for us, and not wanting to hold up; all the p;eople waiting downstairs to get their belongings., I was very upset when I unpacked everything. but all of elens and judys fabric is fine, so the world is full of joy.
