Friday 6/12/2026 Beautiful Day

just getting ready to head out Just finishing my coffee before heading to the Vet Center to work on the shop. Need to get an early start to beat the Arizona Heat. Tomorrow will be the same start early and knock off around 9-10. Sunday and Monday will be busy days @ the Vet center working on Veterans Claim. I need to wrap things up before heading out to the coast with Pam. Gonna spend the week with her @ her place in Cambria. Then Visit my son in Coalinga on Fathers Day next Sunday. Before driving back here to Arizona.
 
It has been a nice week. Rain for awhile, clear skies for awhile, but wind like crazy. Looking better for the next week. Mowing keeps me busy. Mowed more this season than I did all last summer. Just mowed three times last year. Had to visit dentist and cleaned cleaned up for sharper bit. Went ok but have a few things to get taken care of.
Running LOML to physical therapy ever couple of days, and she is getting better. They do manipulate the hip and do excercise to help muscles regroup. Looking good.

Depending on which undependable news and weather outlet you listen to the temperature here reached 101 degrees yesterday. Other reports were that it was only 99 degrees.

Let me just say this about that, as a fat boy who doesn't sweat much in hot weather it was hot enough to make me sweat. That is not something you want to see or even contemplate. So let's just move on.

I worked in the shop for about 3 1/2 hours yesterday and managed to get a lot accomplished. Went to the shop this morning at 7:30 and got more accomplished. I am working on 6 projects at one time. So when like operations are required I work on different pieces for different projects. It works well if you can stay organized. My wife is taking photos of the various steps for articles so it saves her time and she doesn't like the heat at all.

I bought a 3X3X12" piece of Morado (aka Santos rosewood, Peruvian walnut, Pau ferro) from a vendor I have been doing business with for years. The company is Got Wood. They have a nice website. He has a great guarantee in that if the wood he sends has any defects he will make it good by either refunding your money or taking it back. Well, as I started working with this stick I noticed it had four wormholes. These were not powder post beetle sized, these were about 1/8" or so. Most of the time I can work around such things but these holes fell right in the middle of the stick and since I was going to use the wood for small Japanese style bowls the holes would be compromising the appearance of the bowl. I took a couple of pictures and notified the owner at his site. Almost immediately I receive an apologetic reply and a promise of replacement. In 36 hours I had another beautiful piece of Morado to work with. Now that is customer service. Got Wood for all your wood needs. Good wood, good service at Got Wood!

By the way, this morado was kiln dried which is one of the reasons I buy from him. He has a wide selection of both domestic and exotic woods available. It is nice to be able to use a piece of wood right away and not have to go through roughing and waiting for it to dry. The picture below does not do it justice. Those specks on the surface that look like bug holes are actually bits of wax. He dips the ends of his kiln dried material in wax as a bit of insurance.

Been a hot one and worked through it. Horrible storms last night, twin tornadoes about 20 miles North of us. Over 8,000 people out of power this morning yet. This was the longest we have had the generac run. Shut off at 9:30 this morning. CJ graduated last Sunday, tomorrow is his party. Obviously will be there. Sunday going to a swap meet then home to build a fence.
 
Been pretty hot here this week, with winds in the afternoons. We're getting a few spits of rain here and there...just enough to make your car dirty but not enough to help the yard or landscape.

Playing a gig tonight at the Dragonhorn...the rest of the weekend will be chilling and relaxing. I expect to watch some Formula 1 racing, but no other firm plans.

Side story about the Dragonhorn: The place changed ownership at the beginning of 2025 and went from being a cool neighborhood bar to just a dive bar with no personality. The old owner was a great guy who's owneed a few bars in town over the years, and I still consider him a friend. The new owner lives in another state, and she's not a pleasant person. None of the employees seem happy and the whole vibe of the place has gone downhill. I was texting with the manager (a local gal that I don't really know well) earlier this week about a promo flyer, and I closed off my message with "See you Friday!" She answered back "LOL I avoid that bar as much as I can unless I'm on the time clock." That's the person running the place. :rolleyes:
 
Just routine gardening. Heat index was 106 today and the missus called me and told me to get my crazy butt indoors. Told her I was getting acclimatized for when the real hot weather hit and our AC quit. She didn't realize I was sitting on the swing in the shade with the misters going full blast around me. That will be a good plan for the weekend. Stay safe and healthy, folks.

Ted I'll usually put a few damp towels in the freezer to ware around my neck. Works great on hot days.

Broke here today. A light mist of rain around daybreak, then sunny and ~75° for the rest of the day.
I got the front yard mown, and the Kubota and I got about 6~7 yards³ of mulch spread around the trees and beds.
Gonna sleep well tonight! Might need some BioFreeze® or Voltaren® tomorrow... :rolleyes:
 
Happy Friday everyone. It's been hot and stormy here this week like many others are experiencing. Had to get the window air conditioner installed in the shop in order to spend any enjoyable time in there. I've spent several days in my shop this week working on laser projects. I need to make some minor repairs to one of my organs this week to get it ready for the summer events.

LOML caught on early that if we were out somewhere and I heard live music of almost any kind I would let go of her hand and head straight for it. Pier 39 in SFO and the boardwalk at Newport and around Balboa Island . . . all good for buskers. If you are from out of town (or a local who hasn't had the experience) a San Diego Gaslamp district dinner and pub-crawl is a right of passage. Lots of live music and local talent.

It’s a nice, soft morning in the Annapolis Valley, with fog and a few showers. We’re having a slow weekend after a busy week in the heat, getting ready for farm visitors.
Last evening, we hosted a pasture walk session organised by the ag advisory service, to show and tell about our long-running (20 years+) rotational grazing program in our sheep pastures. It was a very pleasant time with 25-30 keeners here to listen and learn and exchange ideas. Quite social, it was, and some folks hung around and chatted until nearly dusk.

We’ve been pushing hard to tidy up, mostly some minor messes we were walking past every day and not noticing. The timing was perfect and we could show the re-growth of pasture blocks we had successively grazed since early May. The gardens look pretty good from a car window and the deep red poppies in the new perennial garden in front of the barn are in full bloom.

I have a 5500 btu in the window in garage but in this heat and humidity it's useless
Plus I don't have the power out there to run machines dust collector and ac same time so I'm constantly blowing circuit breakers
In the fall when it's 75 and humid if I'm not using machines I'll turn it on
