Looking at a beautiful day here in the east. Winds kind of pushed the smoke out. Nice ride into work on the bike. Lot's to do getting jobs out of the shop.
Weekend family reunion. I'm hopping the weather is good.I usually ride the bike up to Gettysburg for this.
Beside that not much for me at the shop a few poercelain pieces and a couple painting and a statue to repair.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend !

I cleaned the shop this week. Can't tell you how much I enjoyed that. Main reason I can't tell you how much I enjoyed doing that is that doing so would require the use of expletives in abundance and I am pretty sure they would violate the sites rules.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous this week which afforded me a lot of shop time besides cleaning.

Working on three articles this week as well. Completed one and sent it on to the magazine publisher. Today we will work on another one. I say we because my wife is my action photographer as she takes photos as I turn. She is real trooper and will stand right where she can get the best shots with the chips raining all over her. That is just one of the reasons we have been married for so long. The other reason is almost certainly my animal magnetism.

I turned some bottle stoppers this week, I didn't want to but I found an unused cone stopper from Ruth Niles and decided to put it to use. Gave it to my wife and the next thing I know I was ordering some stoppers and turning knobs for them for my wife's book club. When she has book club at our house they seem to drink a lot of wine. I was wondering if they read books so they get to drink wine or do they drink wine to read books. I have never considered drinking while I was reading.

I had two appointments with the eye doctor this week as well in preparation for my upcoming cataract surgery. I have both eyes to do so I will be out of commission for some period of time.

Whatever I do today outside will happen before noon. Looks like for the whole weekend, too. We've been under those air quality alerts for about a week. They are saying it's an ozone alert. Whatever kind of alert it is, I don't care. All I know is that by noon it feel real oppressive out there. I have a pecan bowl I want to finish this morning if at all possible. Have a red oak blank ready to rough out. Who knows what else will happen? Does it really, really matter. You either go for the ride or not. I choose to go for the ride.

My usual weekend... getting ready today for market tomorrow.... tomorrow a drive into Knoxville for the Farmer's Market at Market Square...then pack up and return home.... Sunday kick back and recover from Saturday.

Today is my son's 51st birthday... just talked with him to wish happy birthday. He's in the process of moving over to North Carolina and was up in his shop above his garage cleaning out things he didn't want to move, packing his tools for the movers coming tomorrow..... then he's headed over to the coast where his wife is in their rent house... he'll go over on Sunday or Monday depending on when he can get to the dumps to get rid of some stuff.... doesn't look like we will get to see him before he goes.

Not much different than other week ends, spending time learn about preparing and engraving photos this week end, lots to learn. the usual Church and working at the Legion Post on Sunday. I also need to start on the first of many training programs for the 2024 Medicare season. Yup its that time again.

air quality is down to moderate this morning......can see blue sky and clouds, and I dont smell smoke, after lunch I will probably start a truck bank Im going to make for my grandson. I need small projects to keep me busy.
yesterday, I finally gave in and called eye doctor because of annoying pain in my left eye. I figured dry eyes and felt like something was in it. after a week of washing it out, using lubricating drops, my wife forced me to call and to my shock, the oiffice told me to come in 45 minutes later....whoa....usually this office is a three month backup and they send you to different eye docs.
I was diagnosed with an erosion of the eye, the cornea? he asked me if it was tough pain, I said no, more annoying then anything else. so I got ointments and drops and he said it will heal by itself, and if it doesnt in a few weeks I should call him.
last thing I want to do is get saw dust in that eye this week.

we planned a small getaway end of month into the amish area of pennsylvania. just a few days and only a few hours of driving. we need to get it all in becvause after labor day we are full time babysitters again. and even though elen handles the brunt of the hour by hour baby stuff, Im still stuck home with her. well, not stuck, I do enjoy my grandkids. my boy will be in full time school by then.

Our Friday has been pretty much normal so far. We're already back from lunch in Boston and settled in for naps. Not sure what the afternoon will bring.

Saturday should be a bit more work on a couple of small shop projects along with more cleanup.

Sunday will be out normal routine of me preparing brunch, then chillin' out watching some golf and racing.

Air quality is not too bad, so I'll be playing in the garden and doing some general clean up. A hawk has discovered our bird feeders and maybe I can shoo it away for a while. Going to be a good blackberry harvest this year.

I just read that a guy had problem with a hawk after his chicken. He got some Black chicken and mixed em in with his other and now the hawk thinks that they are black birds and stays away because they Black birds are natural enemysof hawks. Get some Black hens and turn em lose in your garden that may solve the problem and you can have eggs as a bonus.

I’ll be practicing my flare making and hopefully getting the mini split going. Have a few minor things to work on before drywall starts. Also need to pickup more drywall and taping supplies. Other than that, just yard work.

I do need to cut some vinyl numbers/letters for our new mail box, and brought my wife’s craft cutter from storage last night.

It's the second Friday of the month again, so I'll be moving and setting up band gear this afternoon, and then playing a show at the Dragonhorn tonight.

Saturday I'm planning to get some pork belly started curing, with the intention of smoking some bacon in about 7 days. I also need to plant some more tomato plants down in the garden. The squirrels have eaten about 75% of the ones I planted a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to trap the little yard rats, but no success so far. I have to use a live trap and relocate them, and have to do it when SWMBO isn't here, because it makes her sad. :eyeroll: I'm open to suggestion for ways to deter the little suckers. A .22 rifle with a suppressor and subsonic ammo would be my preference. All the neighbors would hear is a quiet "click-click-thump". ;) But alas, that's not allowed where I live, lol.

Sunday will be the usual...aimless wandering around the house tying to avoid the chores LOML comes up with. 🤣

What a difference a week makes. Last Friday at this time the first light rain was starting to fall on our forests and dry, concrete-hard farmland. It’s been a week of rain, more than 6 inches everywhere and considerably more along the Atlantic coast. The major forest fires in Nova Scotia have been suppressed, but amazingly, a couple of them are not considered “under control”.
Many of the crops have responded quickly, particularly some fields of early potatoes and, of course, the forages.
Naturally, on my list is mowing, the lawns as well as the first lane of the pasture, to clip the seed heads and encourage second growth.

As usual, there’s an abundance of carpentry and shop work to do. I had a friend help me reduce 23 sheets of 3/4 plywood into apple bin reinforcing gussets this week (10 per sheet). It was dusty, repetitive work, but the bonus was a cleaner and more organized work space when we were done, the result of having a smart, fit, 30 year old helper to do a bit of heavy lifting 👍

Enjoy the weekend. Work and play safely.

(edit) Just kidding. These black chickens were already in the garden and didn't seem to phase the hawk at all. They must be too skinney.:)

" .22 rifle with a suppressor"

Funny you should mention it, I was just discussing3 D printing one with the Riders Commander last Sunday, he's an Marine (ret) and a former LEO
I think a printed one would have trouble dealing with the heat after a few shots. Then there's the whole Federal Prison thing, lol.
Is also the sound a PCP air rifle makes. Check to see if air rifles are allowed. My PCP dispatches tree rats that become a nuisance without bothering the neighbors. Shhhhh…SWMBO must never know.
Yeah, nah. Even a BB rifle is illegal within the city limits. That doesn't mean I haven't taken a few pot shots at the little buggers when the wife is away. ;) But then again my BB gun is a little cheapie that won't pierce flesh. Maybe I should break out the pump-up .22 pellet rifle. (Secretly, of course.)

I power washed my bus inside and out today. Deliver it back to the school tomorrow (Sat.). I have probably only gone to a dozen graduation parties of students over the years. I just don't like "overlooking under age students drinking" (it isn't all the time thing, just don't like myself being put in that position). Anyway, have one graduation party Saturday, a student that has overcome so much and after my welding and woods classes I talked him into taking the building trades program. He fell in love with the trades and his teacher has helped him get in position to get in the trades union as a carpenter laborer. Sunday another graduation party for a student that was my all time highlight in the woods class. He turned so much quality over and above his assignments. An outstanding young man that his parents are top notch people and were past students of mine (yeah, getting old).
Been cleaning the shop. Hope to get my dust collection system up and running in a couple of weeks. Have the John Deere sitting in front of my garage (my outside shop!) with one tire dismounted from the rim, have the rim off, getting the bolts out of the cast iron wheel. Pulled the floor/deck off of it last fall and replaced the steel hydraulic lines under it. Once I get the used rims and tires I bought for it, will do a complete tune up and fluid change and get it running. Of course have to continue the calves education. Have a great week all, stay safe and healthy!
Have a CT scan scheduled for Tuesday. More info on that later.
