Friday 7/3/26 plans for D 4th

Enjoying the air conditioner. To hot to plow that's for sure. No plans to go out. We can watch fireworks from front window. Daughter coming down to check on us poor old folks. Needs to check and see if we;re still alive and kicking. Guess we are, my ribs still jurt and shoulder aches so I guess thowe are good signs of life..
Everyone have a safe and healthy weeend and more.
Happy 4th of July. Our country will survive and be better.

Not sure how I want to handle today
It's 97 right now with dewpoint at 75-76
I might attempt 30 minutes out in the sweat shop to continue practicing wet sanding my epoxy practice block
I ran it over a round over bit was fine
Not so fine with sanding but I'm only up to 400 grit
If I feel heat frustration I'll come in and pack
We have a block party tomorrow at nieces home but I'll most likely sit in house for a couple of hours and leave
Sunday we are leaving for Pennsylvania for the week
Gotta give the new convertible a workout weather and heat permitting
We booked the presidential suite at windcreek so our room will be sweet as well as a suite
Some shopping some gambling and I'm certain some quilt stores and for me some bbq restaurants

I'm going to make a Halloween lawn decoration when I get home once again leaving the epoxy table waiting
It's going to be a kissing booth with an ugly witch mask with multi colored lights at night
And that's it I covered the whole week
 
We spent the day firming up our reservations for our sept road trip
I wanted to visit Judy gale Roberts studio in Seymour Tenn but it isn't open Friday thru Sunday and that meant staying in casino hotel on weekend which is usually a lot more expensive
So we called and by using Elen's players card she split our reservation and they comped my rooms for 3 nights and elen had to pay next to nothing for 2 nights
A few days ago the inn at Charles town racetrack casino which is basically near our first nights stop sent me an offer out of the blue as I rarely play at penn national casinos
No one can tell me my I phone isn't monitoring what I say
How coincidental
Couldn't book offer online for some reason so we then called them and they comped both nights but there is a 10 dollar per night resort fee
So so far we got 7 nights for 227 bucks and no we don't have to play at all
May not get more offers but these are out of state so I'm not concerned
Charlestown offer also included 70 dollars in food comps plus breakfast is free
Cherokee we always get boatloads of food comps
Turning out the booking is going great so far and I get to go see Judy Roberts work
 
CJ's birthday today. Lou and I took him out for lunch, his present is to be opened later. Will put candles on a pumpkin roll (he loves them!). Survived the heat days. Was working from daylight to about 8 am, last two days nothing but chores. Supposed to rain today, tonight and make the heat more bearable. CJ and I have the fence about completed. A good 3 hours might get the cattle on pasture by this Sunday. Then on to his 4H bench. You all stay safe and as healthy as you can. Happy birthday CJ and America!!!!!!!! Thank you to all service men and women for making this holiday a reality.
 
Happy birthday, CJ !! 110 heat index forecast all weekend...mojito weather in these parts...early morning garden watering and then back in the house to putter in the garage. Plenty of produce to try and save...pickles, relish, cucumber water, sauteed squash and onions to freeze. Tomatoes are ripening and will be made into salsa and some very tasty bruschetta. Sometimes my Vietnamese next door neighbors have family over for a fireworks display that is amazing. Hope they do this year too. Enjoy the fourth and stay safe and healthy folks.

quite weekend No work in the Vet Center wood shop due to the holiday. I will be counseling vets on Sunday and Monday. I am trying to come up with a 3D printed wine rack. I downloaded one plan that is printing right now, we will see how it come out.
Be safe everyone and make sure you still have all ten fingers come Sunday.
 
No firm plans. We are dogless this year so no worrying about Fido going bananas. There are a couple of folks in the neighborhood who annually need to prove their masculinity by discharging obviously illegal (professional level) fireworks. Its a free show but we are in a fire area so common sense is all too uncommon :D . I always feel for our firemen this time of year.
 
Spent much of the afternoon Friday getting my butt kicked by a new window blind in the kitchen. It would have been about a 30 minute job for me a few years ago, but between aches and pains and messed up lungs, it took way longer than it should. Went out last night to see a new band (made up of old friends) and to celebrate a couple of birthdays.

Just puttering around the house today, but will go over to my sister's house this evening for a small gathering of family. No kids will be there this year, but my nephew will likely show up with a few legal fireworks. I think he's wasting his money on lame sparklers and fountains since there will already be WWIII going on around us with illegal commercial grade stuff all over. And like Glenn, we're in a fire area, so I'm not real happy about it. Fortunately, our dog , who's scared of a lot of things, is totally unfazed by fireworks.

Sunday is still a mystery sandwich. We'll see what gets done when it gets done. :D
 
This week we have been practicing sweltering. So far we have had three days with highs over 100 actual not some made up feels like temperature. The worst was 103. No relief in sight as temperatures expected to remain in the 90's until they are not.

I have been going to the shop daily but make my escape around noon. Three or four good hours is enough for me these days. I ain't getting any younger and I swear I don't recognize the old codger in the mirror any more. Turned three cups from a stick of kiln dried Morado. This is the wood I purchased from the vendor in South Carolina who I recommended because of his customer service reaction to a problem I had with a piece of wood. Morado is very dense and very hard. Kiln dried Morado is teeth shatteringly dense and hard. Have mercy! It was like turning granite. Of course I was hollowing end grain but most of the time that is not all that difficult. This required the fat boy to use all of his turning muscle to control that chisel as I was reaching only 2 or three inches into a piece of wood. But the effort was worth it and the finish off the tool is remarkable. The richness of the grain and color of the Morado made it all worthwhile. Will post some pics when I have them.

Also turned some eggs from some rejected hard maple baseball bat blanks. Calling this 20 year old maple hard is almost laughable compared to the Morado. One was like turning butter and the other was Morado.

Other than that we continue to enjoy the fresh corn on the cob but that will be ending soon. The farmers are having to irrigate and the corn loves nothing better than heat and water. I am happy to oblige by putting those fresh ears in a steamer and giving them all the heat and water they want.
 
We're just coming out of a fairly severe storm. Heavy winds, 1½" of rain in about an hour. Tornado warnings North and South of us. Thankfully no actual tornadoes, though.
Lost a few more tree branches. Yard is a swamp. Koi pond is overflowing, but that's about it.
Storm took the temperature down from 84° to 68°. A nice change.
Area just South and east of us has 20,000 homes/businesses without power. Some won't get power back until tomorrow, or later. We're good. Light flickered, but that's all. The Generac started, but didn't need to come on line.
