Good day all 5/22/26 Friday

anther busy week end. I am waiting for Amazon to come in with some white filament for the 3 D printed sign I am working on, I ran out of filament and the other spools I have are from a different manufacturer and the color doesn't match up. It turns out not all white is the same shade. I also need to get back on my CE, (continuing education) to renew my license. The there's color guard practice on Saturday as well as a working party for the wood shop @ the vet center. Sunday I have appointment @ the vet center Monday morn we have color guard presentation of color @ a local cemetery for Memorial day and we are hosting a pancake breakfast as well as my normal appointments to help veterans with their paperwork. I get exhausted just thinking about it all.

Last student day. Quite possibly my next to last day of teaching as I am seriously considering retiring next year at this time. 38 years here and 2 other years at another school. 40 years should be enough. The merger of my welding classes with the new engineering classes has proven to be a great addition. Supposed to rain all weekend, Tuesday come in and post grades and take more of my own tools home. Ticks, take them serious and stay safe and as healthy as you can!

Rumor mill has it, Vaughn and Mrs. Vaughn had an anniversary. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evry thing is going just fine this week. Better half had physical therapy the other day and that is looking very promising to release the pain in her hip where she cracked the femur, Seems she shifted her hip so needs relocation therapy. (her hip none not leave me) She also had a Polaria shot the other day which is supposed to help for calcium to the bones absorbation. Any way it it is all looking 100% better.
Been having lots of rain showers so to wet to mow, and weather report calls for week of showers. We need the moisture but the grass will be pretty shaggy before it gets cut. Will say after overhauling mower and new blades certainly improved lawn appearance. Guess it needed that work for a long time.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
Peace
David

There is a promise of some much needed rain this weekend, as our area is in semi-drought and the water authority has asked for voluntary water conservation. Setting up some drip irrigation in the garden that will help. Also installing a couple of motion sensor sprinklers to try and keep the critters from eating everything...and breaking out the PCP air rifle to address the rabbit that just snipped off half my peas. Adding some swing out hinges to the bathroom door for better accessibility. Hanging some pictures and window blinds. Lots of inside projects to keep me busy and still way behind the power curve on the honey-do list. Stay safe and healthy, folks.

The rain cancelled my plans to refurbish the outdoor tiki bar tomorroe
Sunday we pick up both kids and are keeping them till Monday so my daughter can have some peace to relax for their anniversary
No woodworking or shop cleaning till tuesday

I finally broke down and decided to get a guy to reseal my blacktop driveway
I've done it myself every few years since 2003 but elen refuses to let me do it anymore since stent surgery whatever
I had a local contractor knock on my door few months ago and asked if I'd like it done for 1200 bucks
Not going to pay someone 800 dollars for labor when I've done it each time in under 3 hours and I'm old fat and crippled
I can get 2 coats with 8 cans of sealant so I'm waiting on another guy to call me back who came recommended from best friend since he was reasonable and did good job

Had my wife's Jeep in the shop to replace the front axles seals, brakes/rotors, windshield, and a few other items, $1,800 later there was still a list of things totaling about $2,700 they wanted to do. I don't disagree that they were needing done, so I ordered about $500 in parts to do most of them. I'll work on them when our Grandson is down at the farm for a week and have him turn some wrenches. My wife is wanting to give him the Jeep in a few years, so good time for him to start getting familiar with it.

Today is the last day of school for the grandkids. Our oldest granddaughter has a few weeks before starting a summer camp, so taking her back to the farm for a week to hang out with us. I'm also still waiting for the flooring to come in for the new house. I've got two more rooms to remove carpet in, I'm still washing down ceilings and walls, and need to start painting soon.

I'll probably do some picking up in my shop this weekend since my granddaughter wants to do some woodworking projects. I also need to get the garage picked up and organized a bit to get the tractor inside and work on the rockshaft controller arm shaft replacement that snapped off. Seems it is a pretty common issue on the model I have. There was a replacement part number different from the original, so hopefully they have improved the part.

I've been looking at this plant and wondering, it looks likely to be elderberry, and we have a winner. Lot's of this. Jake wants to make mead , he'll just have to beat the birds to the berrys. He has enough plants in the back for 5 gal. or more.
Yup, can can take cuttings and put them in soil to propagate them too. Might get some bird netting and put over them when the berries start to fill out. My wife just bought some elderberry supplements to take before an upcoming trip, trying not to get sick.

The combined class sounds like a fun class.

@Vaughn McMillan and Mrs. Vaughn Congratulations! :congrats:

Important holiday this weekend. Let us not forget those that died so we can live free.

Finally got some consequential rain last night. An inch and a half soaked everything quite nicely. The garden perked right up.

With the rain came cooler temperatures. Most of this week has been in the 90's. Set a couple of record highs and tied two so it was a hot week. One of those records according to the weather media was 96 and an all-time high for any day in May in this area. It was hot!

Despite the high temperatures I managed to get a few hours in the shop each day. Actually I enjoy the warmth far more than the cold that I cannot tolerate. Turned a few items and returned and refinished a piece that one of my lunch buddies turned and made a mess of. He asked me to try and fix it for him. Fortunately he left enough meat on the bone so that I could reshape it and remove some tear out and ripples he left. The punky Ambrosia maple he used was difficult to cut cleanly. I finally dragged out my little Thompson 1/4" bowl gouge and used it to skim cut the entire thing until the tear out was gone. Sanding was easier after the surface was re-cut. I will return it to him this weekend and he can apply the finish of his choice.

Not much else to report. Be well and remember those who sacrificed all in true service to this country.

I've got a pretty full to-do list for today. Pretty sure it's more than I can get done in one day...we'll see how far I get on it. I've got vacuuming to do, weeds to spray, sprinkler heads to replace, and songs to practice. I need to check out LOML's car to see why she says it's slow to start, and need to go to Lowe's, Harbor Freight, and the grocery store. I think I need to buy gas, too.

I also need to get things ready for the monthly Range Day with my shooting club. I've got a couple of guns to clean and I need to go through some ammo to look for light loads. I bought a bulk of cheap reloaded ammo a few months ago and have found some of the rounds don't run well in my new Canik. It seems some rounds don't have the proper amount of propellant, which causes lots of problems. I even had a squib load (my first ever) a couple of months ago. I had been thinking I had a problem with the new gun, but after running a few hundred rounds of factory ammo through it with no failures I've narrowed it down to an ammo issue. I'll use a reloading scale to weigh each round and toss any light ones I find.

Yep, she's put up with my raggedy butt for 20 years as of last Wednesday. I really pulled an ace out of the deck when I found her. :thumb: For our anniversary present we bought ourselves a new sliding patio door and had it installed Wednesday. The old one was hard to open despite several roller and track replacements over the years. The new one is smooth as buttah!

You've seen my driveway - 140 feet long with a 25 X 75 parking area at the end. I have it sealed every other year by a local SealCoat® dealer. He's charged me $350 the last two times.
I know everything costs more on Long Island, but $1200 for a residential driveway is ridiculous!

Too bad I can't send you some of ours. According to local weather guesser we're at over 250% of our normal rainfall so far this year. Supposed to get over an inch more tonight and into tomorrow, too. Nearly got the tractor stuck on flat, level ground last time I mowed. Had to use 4WD and lock the differential to get out of it. Mucky and messy, for sure.

I have another Urn to make as my mom passed Monday, so my brothers and I will be busy taking care of legal stuff and start emptying her house so that can be sold. Going to Larrys sometime this weekend to get some nice cherry for her Urn, l'll enjoy seeing my Bud :)
So sorry for your loss Tom. You and your family will be in my prayers. Tell Larry Hi for me.
