Thursday had a MRI done on the old back. Some good news, some sorta not good, and some who the heck knows? The back is a bit worse but not quite considered surgical. Close but not there. So, gotta continue with the misery I guess. Found out there is a cyst on the lower spine in the S region. Apparently not very big. But, they found some lesions on the right kidney that need further exploring. Ultrasound is next. If that doesn't tell 'em what they want to know then they'll do a CT Scan. So, limbo for now. Hmmm. Same place I have been. Oh, well.:rofl:
 
Doesn't sound all that exciting to me.... hope it all turns out well... we need all our old marines.

I go in Tuesday for an echocardigram, then see the cardiologist to tell me everything is okay... don't know that I have any problems, but since half the menfolk in my family all died of heart attacks, Dr. wants to keep a close eye on me since I'm pushing 80....
I feel good except for a case of tennis elbow in my left arm (I don't play tennis and have never played tennis) but searching the internet symptoms sound just like that... I get electric shocks running down my arm and into my hand every so often... makes me jump every time that hapens
 
As age advances the ole body starts falling apart. I had a stroke on the retina of my left eye. Lost part of my vision there. Today, I go see a retina specialist for a 'procedure' on it. Don't have any idea of what the procedure will be but I suspect it will involve needles going into my eyeball. Before I start feeling sorry for myself, I always try to remember to be grateful we have modern medicine with these kind of 'procedures'.
 
How true, Frank. How true. That ultrasound jelly stuff is cold as you said, Ryan. Dunno why it can't be warm. Oh, come on Vaughn. Pregnant? :rofl: Well, kicking I'm not sure about. Kicking hurts now, Bill. But, I can still swing the 8lb splitting maul!
 
The missus had a lot of back pain and a cyst showed in the same region. They did a procedure to remove it and discovered and removed two other cysts in the same area. Solved a lot of her back pain issues, but I will say the initial healing was very painful and the medical factory docs were very stingy with the pain meds and not at all helpful with over the phone pain management advice. Had to dig into private stash from previous surgeries to get her through. Why they think a 75 year old person in extreme pain is at risk to become an addict defies reason. Lawyers/government regulation have them so scared the patients suffer.
 
Luckily for me I don't have a problem with getting pain medications from the VA. I've talked to some vets that do. The only thing my doctor asks me is if I have enough and is it still working for me, or does he need to up the ante on it. What my pain med does is knock the hard edge off but doesn't put me in a stupor or anything. I don't like feeling out of control of my senses. But, I also don't want to feel like someone is stabbing me in the back. I've been through explosions and gunshots. Never been stabbed or slashed but I get the feeling I know what it might feel like.
 
I've never been shot, exploded or stabbed, but I think I would be more afraid of the stab and slash...
I've had a pretty serious electrical shock so I'm very careful with electrical work and if I have any doubt, I call in a pro.
I've only had pain meds once... when I was hospitalized in the Navy and had surgery for some urological problems, I was given a shot of morphine... the corpsman was a full blood Navajo and I think he was getting back at the white man for all the indignities suffered by our Native American friends... he grabbed my arm in the dark, jabbed the needle in the back of my arm.... I got a warm oozy feeling from the morphine, but next morning I couldn't raise my arm... decided that was enough for one lifetime. I take a couple of Aleve's now but about the strongest I want.

My wife had a problem with the retina in her left eye... the doctor said he could do a retinal peal and that it would heal and grow back... not sure that it has,
she's beginning to have some vision problems in both eyes, even after her cataract surgery.... be careful with what they do, we only get one set of eyes.
 
Hang in there Chuck, do not make any assumption before they tell you everything. LOML also has a cyst on her lumbar region and she's been told that eventually it may press some nerves so it will have to be removed better sooner than waiting until it starts to ache.

Sorry about your wife. That is a tough situation. Mine was a stroke of the retina. Needle injection not fun but tolerable. I have to repeat every month. Maybe for life.

Had my echo cardio gram yesterday... no big deal for the procedure itself... the tech was pretty thorough and spent half an hour or more "taking pictures'.... the cardiologist read the pictures same afternoon and said that while things do look a little worse, not enough to worry about and rescheduled me for this fall... he said we may skip the echo this fall and do another in the spring. I feel really great except for a little tendonitis in my left elbow... probably a nerve from over usage... it was so painful Monday night I wasn't able to sleep at all. The wife had a bottle of Hemp Oil that I rubbed on it last night... feels 100% better this morning.

Frank, Dianne is diabetic, has had a stroke, a septic infection that almost took her away from me and left her with some fused vertebrae in her back, open heart surgery stemming from the septic infection attacking her mitral valve requiring a replacement... the diabetes is affecting her vision. At the time of the eye procedure, the doc said it was a wrinkle in the retina... plus she's getting to be prone for gloucoma, but her vision in the left eye with the retina peal is actually better than her right. Her stepmother in CA had to have injections in her eyes for glaucoma... they worked for a while, but eventually stopped... unfortunately she passed away the day before Christmas at 96 years of age. Only met her once, but she was a grand lady.
 
Dave, apologize for hijacking your thread... I have a little bit of back pain, but not enough to worry about yet.... hope your gets taken care of really soon... I know that back surgery is no fun... have a close friend who has had 3 different surgeries and a series of rods in her back... she has said if it was to do over, she wouldn't... then there's my mother in law who had surgery back in the '50s.... worked perfectly and never a problem afterwards.
My friend has developed fibre myalgia (not sure of spelling) from her surgeries... she's limited to what she can do, but still keeps on trucking.

I know two people who had the rods placed in their backs, and both are horror stories. UhUh Ain't gonna put no rods in me. Lots of other things can be done besides that. Already had one fusion in the back and it is fine. Same as the two in the neck. It's just the other discs all around the fusions that are the problem.
 
The discussion was about Chuck and his wife. Bad habit of us old guys, as soon as health issues come up in a conversation we start talking about ourselves. I apologize for doing that. Hope your wife's eye injections, and other treatments, continue to help. FWIW (talking about myself again), after one injection in my left eye vision has cleared tremendously.

I wasn't happy but needed to wait
Hope they give me some answers tomorrow
