Help, pleASE. Got it fixed

I have a adjustable seat for my scroll saw. I have had it probably 5+ years. Lately, when I get off of it and come back a while latter it has risen to the extent of the hydraulic cylinder. I have research and lots of in on fixing a adjustable chair when it won't stay up, but nothing on one that won't stay down.. Maybe it is the same fix. which is centered on the lever you release to lower or raise it. Anybody ever have this happen?

You sit on it and it wont go down? That is interesting. I know you can get new pneumatic cylinders for them on amazon.

My chair wont stay up, so I just cut a piece of PVC in half to the right height and zip tied it on.

Weird! I'm guessing there must be two seals and the one slowing lift gave out as well?

Looks like replacing the cylinder isn't super difficult might be the simplest solution. Would be real tempting to tear apart the old one and see if it was possible to figure out how it failed.

It goes down when I climb up and get on it and move the adjustment handle. It will stay down as long as I sit on it... but leave for an hour or so come back and it is up as high as it can go again.

If the lever is broken I find another one. Never baught one new. To many are out there that people just don't want anymore. There perfect for the shop.

I'm going to get a cement block, and put it by my stool, when I get up I will put the block in the seat to hold it down. Problem solved!

I've never seen one that won't stay down, just ones that won't stay up.

Maybe you just need to turn the cylinder upside down.

Thought of that, but I ordered a new one only $30 with 5 year replacement warrenty.. Heck even now, but I would guess in 5 years I will be excited to have anything that will go up let alone stay up!!. I knew if I ordered one, it would ensure I find the extra one I got years ago to replace a bolt that was missing when I first got he stool.

I get customers wanting me to fix them. Sorry , no can't fix them. I don't weld I only do wood.
Or you can send the chair back to the maker for the warranty BEST OF LUCK.

Well $31 latter and 15 minutes work and fixed...My stool, all tricked out with a Chrome neoumatic lift. I paid a little over $100 for the stool several years ago. Now it is listed at well over $200. I think is was worth fixing.
