Hickory

A friend of mine burns wood for his primary heat and had a piece of hickory that he insisted I have for my outdoor fire pit. Which really means he couldn't split it. So its been sitting around the shop for about 9 months and has been in the way so I decided to give it back to him.

Them's beautiful!! Really good job, Steve. Amazing what some "junk" wood will give you. I turn a fair amount of pecan which is in the same family. Great looking wood. I have some weird looking cutoffs in the pecan pile I look at from time to time to figger out if I could possibly get something from them. Again, excellent work.

Not to take away from Steve's great pieces at all, but for me at least, it's not that I can see a beautiful item in an ugly piece of wood, but more that I enjoy the surprise of discovering what might be hiding in there. And more often than not, it's worth the hard work to find out.
