Box elder spalts more beautifully than almost any other wood. It can produce a variety of brilliant colors. Nice work on yours.

I've never tried any of the UV blockers. I just try to keep them out of sunlight as much as I can. I have some pieces (typically finished with clear lacquer) that have been displayed in my house for 8 or 9 years. They still have most of the red coloring.
