I had just a taste and I knew it was not for me.

Went to a friend's house and his wife offered me some punch. It contained alcohol and was a version of Long Island iced tea. Because of the medications I am on I decided to delibate the liquid out of politeness. I then explained that my medicines are not compatible with alcohol.

It has been so long since I have imbibed any alcohol and even that sip went to my head. It would be easy to get me drunk.

I'm with Mike on the alcohol... when in the navy I supported a few bars in and around the town, and afterwards for a short time... had an occasion to attend a friend's wedding 2 weeks before my own... we had champagne on an empty stomach from about 11 am until the wee hours of the morning.... I lost the ability to focus both eyes simultaneously and was a my death bed next day with the hangover.... made a pact with God... let me live and I'll never do that again....
that was 1970 and he kept his side of the bargain, so I keep mine. Most I'll do now is an occasional ale or beer with dinner... just one and only about once a week.

I gagged on the champagne toast at my wedding and still don't like the taste of it.... also have about sworn off orange juice... my drink of choice back in the navy days was a Vodka screwdriver....

Did my share of hootch imbibing in my younger years. Now it holds no appeal . Figured I could not out drink the brewers. So why try. Do have 1/2 a beer when I make drunken chicken and have to use only half the can. Don't want to waste the beer.

I used to drink a lot, and then didn't touch the stuff for years. These days about the only time I have alcohol is after a band gig, when I allow myself one cocktail.

the only alcohol Ive had was one finger of a very fine scotch around 2 or 3 years ago

when I was in my early 30s, and only when I was in atlantic city, Id end each night there at the lobby bar and have one cutty sark, maybe two if I was worked up from a long day.
im guessing its been 35 years or so since Ive had any alcohol besides that one finger of scotch.

the only bad thing is every single one of my friends and wives enjoy wine with dinner, a beer or two while watching games, and certainly a bar stool when we travel with them.
they always shy away from wine at dinner when we are with them, and Im never sure if its because they feel we are cheated since we split the bill, or they think we will be ticked off they have a drink.
both reasons are nonsense, we dont care, nor do we look at the bills to split that closely.

now when I was in college and those young stupid days, well, ok, Im not talking bout dem der days.

Not just Booze prices, I was just in Walgreens and happened to look behind the counter and saw the price for cigaretes, $9.88 a pack, 20 years ago when I quite I was smoking 2 packs a day, why that's insane, why that's twice my Harley payment.
I quite in 87 I was a 3 to 4 packs of Cools a day smoker ..........I liked to smoke I would sometimes go though a pack from 4am till 8am worrying if put the right mechanic on right job. If not every plane in the hanger would be late and guess who got the butt chewing

I never smoked, but I remember when I was about 10 or 12 my dad could send me to the local grocery store and I could buy him a pack of Camels for $0.25....
When I was in high school they put cigarette machines in the lobby of the local movie house at $0.50 per pack and people were incensed.
