Island epoxy river top fabrication commences.

The machining and sanding are done. Once Celeste decides on the color she wants, I'll stain it. Then it's time for epoxy, which I'm ordering tomorrow. I just have to calculate how much I need. This is going to be a gorgeous island top!

.The slab is one inch thick. All around the edge, I'm going to glue 1X red oak to the bottom of the slab. This will make it appear that the slab is 1.75 thick. I might just slightly round over the top edge. After the river is poured, it will get a 1/16 thick coat of self-leveling crystal clear epoxy that will just flow down over the edge.

I'm going to try to come up with a dust collector boot for it but didn't want to spend the time right now. I did the machining out in the driveway in front of the garage. I just stopped once in a while and swept up and vacuumed. It worked fine for the time being. This rig works better than I thought it would. I'm very happy with it.

Yep. In a couple more days, I'll set up my router sled again and do final machining. Probably only need to take off about 1/16". Then it gets a good sanding and then two more coats of high-gloss epoxy over the whole thing.
