It followed me home

The guys at the American Legion (Legion Riders) have been trying me to get a bike and go out with em. They ride together for outing and well as Parades to celebrate our Flag and the different Branches of the service. They also provide escort for vets funerals. I told em that @ 75 years old I have no business on 2 wheels so they said I can ride a trike. I started looking for something used no to serious just testing the waters when I ran across a deal to good to pass.

Its got two wheels but for the price It was a steal. It is a "Barn find" in that it's been in storage since 2011. Has a clear notorised title. The battery was dead but it did turn over and I am now charging the battery. The gas was drained so I put a little in the tank and once the battery is up I'll see if it starts. Tomorrow I'll take it down to a local motor cycle mechanic and have him change all the fluids and fix the broken clutch cable. I plan on selling it. My market research says they are going for between $3000-$4000. 1987 Honda Gold Wing 1 owner. 65000 miles. Oh did I mention, I paid $800.

That's a great price, Don. :thumb:

I used to work with a guy who had a Gold Wing from about that same era. That thing had power to spare. I remember one night we left the office together and were both driving side by side heading north on the 2 freeway leaving Glendale CA. There's a stretch of that freeway that's a relatively steep uphill climb. My '90 Bronco was about maxed out at about 80 mph in 5th gear. My buddy downshifted and pulled ahead like I had put the Bronco in neutral, lol.

I haven't really ridden a motorcycle since Guam, 1961-62... don't think they had the Goldwings out yet, but one of my buddies had a Honda Dreamcycle (250 cc I think) . lots of fun to ride, but my favorite then was another buddy's Yamaha 300.... was riding it one day, met a house in the middle of the road, turned to go back the other way, but hit a gravel pocket and dumped the bike.... when it quit spinning I was perched on the gas tank, holding on to the handle bar for dear life.... scuffed the other side of the tank a bit. Buddy just laughed at me, and when he was transferred back stateside sold it, scuff and all for what he paid for it.

I did ride once more when I had a guy bring a big 750 to me to crate up and ship down to Mexico for him.... I rode it around the building to the warehouse ramp in low gear at just enough speed to keep it balanced... was also dressed in a 3 piece suite since I was export manager for the company I worked for.

A friend who lives across the state has an '85 Goldwing trike. It is his daily rider. When I asked him when he intended to replace it he said it gives no problems at all. If it ever does he may replace.

His one piece of advice was to never lay it over hah.
That' why s exactly once I get it fixed up and the registration current it'll go up for sale. I still plan on getting one with 3 wheels. This just seemed like to good of deal to pass up. If I make a coupla grand in the process I'll just put that toward the purchase of the Trike.

I'm on the lookout for a 3 wheelie.

Maybe consider having it turned into a 3 wheeler. A friend of ours did that with his.

The battery wouldn't charge so I replaced it with a New one, The clutch was not working and with out a working clutch it will not start. The clutch is hydraulic like the brakes and was out of fluid, I filled it but there was air in the lines. I did some research and with the help of You Tube I was able to find out how to bled, where the bleed connection was and got the clutch working. The with a little coaxing was able to get it to start and ran it for a few minutes, now when I take the choke off and try to give it gas it kills it so back to You tube, The good news IT'S ALIVE. I may replace the fuel filter but first it's back to you tube.

I am always so thankful to the YouTubers and forum members who post things about your clothes dryer, the fan speed switch in your truck, your HVAC drain line, the IPv6 address-family configuration for BGP signalling for your MPLS network to simplify the configuration . . . oh wait . . . that last one was me. :D:D:D

A coworker who does a lot of "car stuff" was trying to figure out something on his rig that was apparently notoriously complicated in some fashion so was looking for youtube videos to explain it. He finally found one and was like "wow this guy really explained it really nicely just how I'd like it... " and.. about half way through he realized it was a video he'd uploaded like 5 years earlier the last time he had to do that thing.

well my local auto part house doesn't carry the fuel filter but Amazon does. I'll give it and oil change while I am waiting. I might throw a can of carb cleaner in it just because it bee sitt'n for so long, cant hurt. I can also get the registration squared away on it this week and order the battery cover, I found one on E bay. I am anxious to get this thigs finished so I can put a for sale sign on it. I could never pick this beast up if I layed it over it weighs in a 73 pounds opps 739 pounds

When I first read this I read it as "local auto parts store doesn't carry fuel line" instead of "filter" (there is a word for people that can't read...)
I was going to mention that when I was stationed on Guam, a couple of buddies and I each bought Lambretta scooters... some one stole my kick starter, so I sold the scooter and bought a little Honda 50cc.... still almost a scooter. I knocked an oil line off and couldn't find one on Guam... so put a length of model airplane fuel line in place of it... worked until I sold the machine. (was the reason I was riding other guys bigger bikes in earlier post)

That is a pretty looking ride...
