Mikes post reminded me that when our son was younger, his grandpa had given him an old Stanley ruler, which I think belonged to his great grandpa IIRC. I kept finding it on the floor of his room, once in the trash can where he wasn't paying attention and tossed it with some other things. I ended up setting it aside for him until he got older, he never missed it at the time.

I came across it in a box a few days ago and sent him a pic of it, and he recognized it right away. He'll be visiting in a few weeks, so he said he'd take it back then.

I have another like the one I posted, but a bit looser in the joints and several like the ones that Mike posted as well as a newer one with a Doyle scale and hook on it for log estimation. I can't say I've used the folding ones in many years, usually set them out for the grandkids to mess with.

Don, that one looks handy. I bet the fish do measure bigger the closer you hold them to the camera. ;)

I have 2 metal rulers one from my grandfather and one from my great grandfather. I know my grandfather used it on his light table when he made plates for printing presses, he worked in the dark room, I have a plastic tackle box full of junk tools from my wifes grandfather and father I gave to my sil to keep for his son, my grandson. I think it will be cool when my grandson goes into lets say highschool, we will give him the metal ruler his great, great, great great grandfather used.
