let the fun commence!!!

today, on the first of 2 days off, got all the elm cut to length for 5 large advent candle holders, 5 celtic cross candle holders, and 15 jerusalem cross candle holders (elm with walnut smaller crosses).
got a couple of last laser tests in too.

more fun today! cut all of the elm parts to width, and planed to thickness. got all 60 of the ends cut and ready, and started to scavenge my supply of walnut. 5 more days until the next day off....

almost forgot, ordered the advent candles for the jerusalem crosses today as well...

got all the blanks glued up today.

got a bit more done today. got everything sanded, and started to do the cnc work. got the first three of the crosses cut, with number 4 on the cnc, and ready to cut.

no scroll saw, just the cnc. finished cutting the last of these five today. the other ones start tomorrow.

got the first of the second version's blanks cut last night.

got the last of the big ones done today. now, the next step is the laser work...

well, the lasering started out ok, with the smaller crosses getting done. the fun started with the larger ones. started having an issue with the x axis. would go back and forth from center to right ok, but left to center would make a burring noise at times, on the out going, and returning runs. going to replace the belt before any more.

well, 4 out of 5 ain't bad. cut them loose and finish sanded them. gave them a coat of blo last night.

one more coat of shellac for the fronts, and 3 for the sides. then add the cups, and they are ready to go.

another bit of fun getting closer. cut all 60 of the parts for the new jerusalem cross candle holders. sorry, no pics, didn't have my phone with me. next in line, is to start cutting all the half laps on all the parts.

finished all of the recutting of the elm parts for the new jerusalem crosses the other day. did a test set up of one.

almost forgot, this will be laser engraved on the arms as well...

the laser is fixed!!! got 3 of the big boards engraved, and 15 of the jerusalem crosses engraved.

ok, here is where we are now. cut all of the insets for the candle cups in both, and erased all pencil lines on them. on the big ones, starting the oiling, on the smaller ones, adding the end caps, and fitting out the walnut parts.

well, the fun has been going non stop around here. the big ones have their 3 coats of shellac, and the jerusalem crosses have he ends glued on, and given a coat of blo. now i have to fit the walnut smaller cross parts to them. i also snuck a look at the large one with candles, and ordered new candles, too short for the cups.
