Much of the last year has been spent being the executor for a cousin's estate so I haven't had as many opportunities to turn something as in previous years. Pretty well all finished now except for final income tax return next year.

Have a daughter-in-law in culinary school. She asked "can you make a mortar and pestle?" I replied, "Well I never have but I'll give it a try." Here's the result. It's made from Canary wood with a hickory pestle. Holds about a cup. She has carpal tunnel so I made it heavy on the bottom so it's easier to hold down. Eight coats of pure tung oil (first 2 cut with turpentine).

Hope you enjoy

Nicely done, Steve. :thumb:

10+ years ago I made a mortar and pestle for my dad as a Christmas gift. When he passed away a few years ago, I inherited it back. The inside of the bowl smelled like herbs and spices. It did my heart good to know it got its intended use while he had it.
