I looked a while ago for pattern couldn't find
So I decided to try AI and got this after many tries
It's not segmented enough and AI didn't seem to want to go further or didn't get what I wanted
So I printed out the size I wanted and decided to sit down and segment it a bit more with a pen then I'd make new copies and cut

But I checked again and guess what under title new I found Mr Rushmore by Kathy's wise
Wasn't there when I looked a while back
So I ordered it and will abandon my AI version even though I have hours into the design
Here's my version will post her pattern when I get it

It wasn't a Kathy wise pattern it's a Judy gale Roberts pattern
It's a post office delivery supposed to be here today so I'm hoping to get within the next few days
Last time it showed it was in my post office after 10 days and then they sent it out of state
Excellent tracking I believe they don't have a clue even with all the modern tech
Post office needs to be privatized
 
i have to sleep better at night, what was I thinking ordering a pattern with over 300 pieces, alot of them so small I cant hold them without a tweezer. cant even number them they are so small. I cant imagine the gaps Im going to have no matter how careful I am, thats alot of pieces, and small pieces are the worst. 2 pieces with a blade gap is nothingl but 20 small tiny pieces opens up a large area for gaps and errors., eh.
always best to check how cold the water is before you jump in....
 
Got around 200 pcs cut so far
Picking up kiddies early tomorrow so no shop time and Monday and Tues we have the baby girl so with Xmas Eve parties and Xmas day I doubt I'm getting much more done this week

Yep, the small pieces are a real problem, for me even when I do segmenting. They have to be worse with intarsa because you have to shape them. But it is doable, people do it.

There's a reason on the website she rates the plans beginner intermediate and advanced
I need to learn to stay out of the left lane sonetimes

But it hardly costs anything in wood so it's worth trying
I'll have the plans forever and I can visit them further down the road
 
Not sure that I told you this, but when cutting tiny pieces, I make a sort-of Zero Clearance Insert for my scroll saw.

It's just a thin piece of 1/16" or so Baltic Birch plywood about the size of the saw table, with a blade feed thru hole in it's center. I use two pieces of double sided tape, one on each side of the blade, to attach this to the saw table top, but pass the blade through the hole and connect and tension it, before sticking the plywood down to the tape on the table. This keeps it aligned to the blade position well as you stick the plywood down. When made and installed correctly, this will make it easy to cut the tiny work pieces without loosing them through the blade hole. I frequently use a pencil with a good eraser, using the eraser end to position and feed tiny parts. It saves finger nails and keeps the red stains from affecting the work. Two pencils used at the same time can sometimes help too.

The machine came with a blank insert to make a zero clearance one
Im going to order some more blade holders since my machine gets 100 hours min each month don't want to wait till I need thenpart
I'm going to order a couple of blank inserts also
 
We are
Tag teaming babysitting the little babygirl so I got a chance to start seeing how pieces will go together
I'm in over my head and it's clear this one is a bridge too far
The eye pieces all need to be recut but my main problem with all of those pieces is I can't even fit them in using a tweezer my hands just don't do it anymore
I've got 2 dozen hours put in and I'm not sure if I'm going to cut the last 75 or so pieces

Here's rough look at bottom and right side as I'm cutting the remainder species and working from right to left
Eyes are very bad
Was impressed I only couldn't find 2 pieces so I really didn't miss much and I bet those two tiny pieces flew off and are somewhere on floor

The funniest thing about intarsia is that I can recut dozens of pieces and it's still only a half a board foot of wood but that doesn't really count because I have mountains of scraps in every thickness I can't use for anything else
Except intarsia or fret work
