My 2015 Swap Offering - DONE!

OK, I got some 'splainin' to do I guess. Simply put, I didn't like the overall looks of the first pass after I did a dry fit, so now I've got a new pile of stuff to play with.

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

... Love the ripples around the shell definitely sets the piece off imho.

The stippling on the edges of the top is interesting - was that done with the CNC as well?

All of the top was done on my CNC, even the inside face, which used just a 1/4" endmill.

The waves and groove around them were cut with a 90° v-bit.

The shell cutout was done with a 1/16" endmill because of some tight corners.

Ripples were cut with a 60° v-bit at three different depths to similate real ripples.

Border texture was done with a 1/8" ball nose endmill.

The final cutout of the top was done with a 1/4" endmill.

For the base of the box, I used the outline of the top to create a pattern to use on my bandsaw; I wasn't trying to get an exact match, just something close.

Bill were i the Shapeoko guys i would be hunting you down to do demos. I am utterly amazed by what you have been able to do with that machine. This piece is a tribute to that skill you have mastered. So my question is whats next? I mean you have cut , routed, engraved, profiled two different surface textures gee i cant think of what else there is that you have not done on it. Kudos man.
