New crank organ build

Where did you get the plans for this build, Tom?
I'm using a set of "John Smith" Universal plans that I've had sitting around since 2010. The plans came with a booklet of drawings and a CD showing how John Smith built his. I don't have the CD ( I need one though) so right now I'm using the booklet and looking at any photos of existing organs I can find online.

Not a whole lot to show off in the early stages of this build but progress is being made. After being gone to an organ rally over the weekend in Milwaukee Wisconsin, I got back into the shop today. I had used up the last of my 1/8" Baltic Birch plywood so I had to make a run to Indianapolis for another sheet of it. Wow, price of this stuff has gone up. 5'x5' sheet of 1/8" B-grade Baltic Birch was $42. I had them cut it into two pieces to fit in my truck bed. I'm using this to build the 70+ pipes. I cut up the pieces for the "Bass" pipes and the "Bass Helper" pipes. I also have a row of "Open Flute" pipes cut up. It's all just a bunch of strips of wood now, but a lot of time went into calculating and measuring each cut to exactly the right size to achieve the correct note when tuned. I think I still have another 30 pipes to cut out yet, then I still have to glue them all together. Each day is one step done, and one step closer to completion.

As Megan Trainer sings...."You Know I'm All About That Bass....Bout That Bass".
I finished glueing up the 5 main bass pipes. The two largest are 24" long. I'm anxious to hear what they will sound like.
This is also the last of the 70 pipes planned for this organ (unless I decide to add a rank of violin or picillo pipes). I'll set all of these aside and move onto building other parts of the organ for now.

These pipes each require a 5mm cardboard "spacer" be added before I glue on the front lip of the pipe. Cereal boxes are just the right thickness for this so today I'm sitting here cutting out spacers for all the pipes. I may try to draw this up and see if I can cut them out with my laser instead of cutting them all by hand.

I don't know the dimensions but it only took me a minute to draw it up in lightburn.
I did go out and draw it up in Lightburn and my laser will cut out some very nice-looking spacers so I probably wasted 3 hours today cutting some by hand. I'll do all the rest of them with the laser now. The only real issue is that they will all be slightly different sizes but even adjusting for that I think it will be quicker and the spacers themselves will be much nicer although they will never be seen.
