a while ago, i had sorted out, measured, tagged all of the white oak shorts for the project. i then entered all of the numbers in my cutlist program to sort out what parts will come from what boards. today, got to cutting. first of all all cross cuts of 9 inches, next will be the other common lengths. after that ripping to width, and planing down to 3/4 inch, and other final cuts.

while back at the treasure chests....
got the long and short sides glued up, and trimmed to size. got the lids glued up and recut the top inserts to size. started the finishing process for the insides of the boxes. one thing i learned from the first one, tis better to finish the insides while apart, than together. this shows the test set up of the whole chest, and then the coat of cognac stain applied, and wiped down. tomorrow, after the cognac is dry, the kona gel stain goes on.

got a bit more done over the last couple of days. got the kona gel stain on, and the couple of coats of garnet shellac as well. all that is left to be done, is to give them the coat of clear shellac, and the interiors of the boxes will be done. finished up the construction of the lids yesterday, and ran them through the drum sander, and cleaned up the edges where the top corners meet. going to start on the finishing of the insides tomorrow, as well as measuring up, and lining for the straps, and hardware.
