We have an old Cast Iron bench with wooden slats and it has seen its better days

sorry, only pic I have of it, you can see the cast is not looking good

and the wood is much worse

My son's FIL offered sandblasting services and took him up on it and it came out FANTASTIC! Sprayed with Rust-Oleum clear.
Recreated the seat slats using Jatoba and the back wood is Jarrah, both will hold up well in Michigan's environment. Finish is Cabot's Australian Timber Oil. Ready to take outside:)

Nice save. I saved the cast iron sides of the one I had outside my shop. Most slats on it were rotted away, hoping to use some recycled barn wood to update ours. I'll give the Australian Oil a look.

That looks great, Tom. This post reminded me that we have a similar dilapidated bench down in our orchard that the previous owner left behind. Cleaning up the metal and replacing the slats has been on my to-do list. :thumb:
