Pen Swap Partners (closed)

Hey Chuck,
How about a photo of the one you received?:thumb:

I'll post a photo of the one from Stu when it arrives but not the one I sent him as I think he should be the first one to see it before he throws it away.:D:rofl::wave:

Gord,
I have to make a picture, then figure out how to post it here... take my word, it's gorgeous..

Dale,
Your pen is in the mail.. If the weather holds out and USPS doesn't get lost in the snow, should be there about Friday.

Hey Gord, I got your pen today, it is really nice, and that box is really cool! :thumb:

I have to say, I've been dragging, I did not get your pen sent out yet, it is done, I just have to go to the post office.......sorry, I'll get it out tomorrow!

What kind of wood is the pen you sent, and what kit is is?

I'll post a pic later.

Cheers!

Sorry, been out of the loop for a while. Changing job's has me doing double takes. I'll have Nancy's pen done in a week or so when things slow down to a furious pace, from the crazy pace I'm at now. We have to get them there by Feb right? No problem. Sorry Nancy, I as hoping my name would get lost so no one felt shafted by what I send them.:D

Tyler and I have now corresponded and exchanged addresses, etc., so our exchange should take place in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully before the end of the month--or I'll have to make a detour off I-40 eastbound to deliver his pen in person on my way to Tennessee.

Nancy

chucks' pen

this is the pen i sent chuck. i can't do any turning for another month so he got one from my stock. cross cut cocobolo, sapwood inclusion at the top. ca finish and platinum finish hardware on a cigar kit.

I agree...that's a beaut, Dale.

I was going to suggest that we try to take a picture of the pens we send, so in the event the recipient is unable to post a pic, the giver can do it instead...much like Dale did with the pen he sent.

Great idea, Vaughn! Too bad some idiots (that would be me) forget to take a picture before they send it off.:eek::eek:
I'm hoping Stu will take a nice photo with that fancy new photo tent of his so I can have a photo for my scrapbook. Man, I can't believe I didn't take a picture of it.:dunno:

Bobby's Pen Complete

I spent some time in the shop this evening to work on Bobby's pen. No details yet as I want it to be a surprise! :p

I'll take a few snaps just in case.

It would be great to create new thread at the end of this escapade with each pen, along with kit, finishing details, etc... for future reference. Maybe one of the more experienced pen turners could create a cheat sheet the we could fill out?

Cheers,
-Gari

I'll second the motion for a thread to show off the swapped pens, and a details form for folks to fill out. Here are a few items we could all try to list:
  • Pen material
  • Kit model and supplier
  • Finish used (and technique, if you want to share)
  • Any other details the maker thinks might be interesting
Any other thoughts or additions?

OK, to took some poor pics of Gord's NICE pen........

Gord sent along a nice lift presentation box, shows off the pen very nicely! :thumb:

I found your note Gord, I did not see it, at first, as it is white paper, wrapped around a white box, and I was distracted by the pen :D

Gord says it is "Bloodwood" with the Fat Cigar kit in Titanium finish.

Thanks Gord :thumb:

I haven't even started yet. Dawned on me, I have to get a tool rest made for the new lathe for pens. I've been working on deciding what kind of pen and concept I'll do for Barry. It's a...........

Got the pen from Stu today. Amazing, the package says it was mailed on the 11th and it arrived today, four days later. Don't know what that kind of rush cost but thanks, Stu, although there really was no great hurry.

A beautiful pen made of Red Keyaki SW according to the label he put on the pen. Not sure what SW stands for. Stu also threw in 3 pen blanks of what I assume is Japanese wood:
Curly Tochi, Shrinewood & Blue Keyaki.
Looking forward to seeing what the wood looks like when turned but since it's a rare wood here I'm also a bit nervous about using it. Thanks for the extras, Stu, I appreciate it. Would you like me to send some official rare Canadian wood to you? How do you like Poplar?:rofl:

Stu, would you mind telling me how you finished the pen? I like the finish much more than the way I've been finishing them and would like to try it.

Thanks, Stu, the pen is a beauty!!!!:D:thumb:

Please excuse the usual poor photography; the pen is much nicer than the photo shows!!!

Wow, that's a slew of nice pens.

Pete, now that the PM is up and running, I'd better get busy, huh? I've got one piece ahead of your pen in the turning queue, but I'll be getting on it soon. ;)

Hey Gord, glad you got it.

If I sent it surface (I sent it EMS) the price difference was only a couple of bucks, so I sent it EMS, with EMS I get a tracking number too.

The Red Keyaki is one of my Shrinewood blanks, the Tochi is a Japanese hardwood, and that piece has some NICE curl in it, the Blue Keyaki is from my "Logging in Tokyo" adventure.

I've got lots more, so holler if you need some!

*HOLLER!* :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I still haven't had chance to turn the blanks you kindly gave me last year. Hopefully some time soon. I turned a weed pot from one of the Sakura blanks you also gave me - I'll post pictures soon once I get the change to photograph it!
