A few years back the granddaughter of a close friend stayed a few nights with us because she was interested in some of our hobbies (and wanted to escape from her brothers and sisters for a while). She was curious about everything in the shop and garden. I was totally impressed with her broad range of knowledge, her ability to communicate in an articulate and intelligent way, and her enthusiasm for non-traditional young lady type activities. We did some cigar box guitar building, some gardening ...and some back yard plinking with the .25 cal PCP, which was a first for her and she loved it.

It came as no surprise to see her and her sister featured on the CBS News Tuesday as part of a very small group of young women who had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Her folks sure raised them right!

According to wikipedia, (I had to look it up as we do not have that sort of ranking here) only 4% of the scouts achieve that level, so definitely you a her parents must be very proud. Congratulations to both of them as well as to you and her parents. Not all youngsters are getting their brains washed with video games and useless search for "likes" in social media.
