Recently finished

Another one bites the dust...........Finished this vase last week. Construction is Sassafras and resin, measures 6.5 x 10.5 inches. The challenge here was building the upper portion , above the resin, as a staved build. Previously I had only used segmented construction for the upper build but never really didn't like the style mix, staved bottom , segmented top.

The problem at least for me was figuring out and cutting the upper staves with geometry considerably different(length & thickness wise) than the lower staves. It took a little more effort on my part but it worked out.

The problem arose however from the ancient Sassafras I had in stock for better than 25 years. There were a couple of cracks, checks , defects or what ever they are that showed up at the very lower part of the vase. I tried to salvage it by turning away some of the material but got no cooperation from the Sassafras. As a result it is not going to the local gallery I partner with but made my better half smile. Her contribution of the flowers really makes it look really nicer that it is. She is still working on improving me

That looks great, Mike. :thumb: I really like the form, as it doesn't have any of the straight/angled lines that many segmented pieces tend to have. I'm all about the curves. ;)

A tip, if I may: The green border on the first photo detracts from the image, especially with the overall green tint in the background. I think it'd look better without it. Here's my take...I removed the border, cropped it a little, tweaked the tint, and leveled the table. (Click on the thumbnail to see a larger image.)

WOW you folks are all so very kind. It is a great feeling when the stuff you make is understood by other folks who also make.
And Vaughn absolutely no problem I work so much in isolation my only exposure to woodworking peers is in forums like this. As such I am judge and jury of my own work. Any outside reality presented is taken in the best spirit and does nothing better than to remind me to look left and right and cancel my tunnel view.
YOUZ GUYZ IS DA BEST !
