I had posted about finding this old rotten log while picking up logs out of the field this spring. After cutting the rootball off, I thought I had found some Walnut.

Today I put it on the mill, and it turned out to be white oak. It had a decent crook in it, so didn’t get any large pieces, but ended up with some nice patterns and fleck in a few of them.

When my wife accepted a yorkie puppy, I had to drive 90 miles to Harriman TN to pick him up... turned out to be a Silky instead of a Yorkie, but while there the lady mentioned her husband ran a saw mill nearby.... we went and looked at some wood she had there and $10 I got a trunk full of wood... one of the pieces turned out to be a chunk of white oak burl.... I still have part of it to do something with... got a couple of pepper mills out of it.
