Location
new york city burbs
Made to exact measurements
Going to fit into a space but will be brought out so I made a top for it
Sapele hardwood and 1/4 inch sapele glued on sides
Simple unit
I'm always apprehensive when I put pin holes for shelves hoping when I'm done holes match up perfectly
Even with jig I'm always trying as soon as I have initial assembly
I have several people offering me money for my pvc animals I told them that season is over
I'm much happier working with back breaking sheets of plywood in 90 percent humidity

I always check the pin holes like 6 times, so I only get them wrong a bit less than half the time :) (well a bit less than that, but I've gotten paranoid about top vs bottom after a few incidents).

Shelves came out pretty nice looking (y)

Good start, Allen!

When I do shelf pin holes, I cut the sides to size, then set them on the bench with the back edges aligned. Keeping them aligned with clamps, I mark the pin locations on both sides using a square. That ensures they fall where they should.

now that I built the case, the next steps are routing edges of top, and then off to sanding. Seems the 22-44 drum sander gets the top nice and even and flat, but it leaves fine lines from the sand paper.
its always pleasant to be sanding sapele when youre soaking wet in sweat, wearing a respirator.

Looks good. Shelf pin holes can be trying. I use a jig that registers on the first hole so all subsequent holes are good. Getting the 'first hole' in each row perfect is the challenge, but the registering pin can also be used to align the jig to the end of the board which helps you get spot on.

rennie, I used to use a pin first but Ive had success just holding the jig in place clamping down lined up with top or bottom or using a piece of wood to move jig along.

jim-I only use 80 grit now. I use it for rubbing out any glue lines, evening out the surfaces then I go with orbital at 80, to 120, and usually fast up with 180 if Im using oil or stain

and for some reason, the lucite/clear plastic pins I purchased dont seem to fit as snug as the metal ones, so I stopped buying plastic pins.(ace hardware)

when I sold my store, I took hundreds of shelf pins(bronze colored metal) but have since used them all, nothing like a 35 year old shelf pin. I remember I had so many peg hooks, I mean 1000s upon 1000s, I even think some ended up in Indiana.

Ready for delivery
When the delivery mans back isn't sore he will deliver it
Outside got 10 coats em6000 gloss and I rubbed it down with 3m sanding sponge
I put plastic furniture sliders on bottom
The bottom shelf is my grandpa frame I'm waiting on picture my daughter said she thinks real soon

Looks really good. I really like the inside/outside color contrast. The lighter wood on the inside really helps brighten it up and not make the shelving look like a dark hole, but the fancy darker wood on the outside just pops nicely.

Feel bad Elen has to come out and help me break down ply sheets but lifting and controlling full sheets on ts with limited space has become a nightmare / headache for me these days
If I wait for bil or neighbor I could be waiting hours
All done tomorrow I start dados and pin holes
Never would have thought I'd be finished for the day at 1:30
