Hi Guys.

I made this stool to climb on it to reach high things and to sit on it when working at ground level to avoid crouching for long times, the wood I used is Samanguila, Khaya ivoriensis.
After drawing it and deciding the measurements, I started by cutting the feet, first I cut the top and bottom edge at the required 75º angle.

Then I drew the the tenons and the lines to cut the sides in order to get a trapezoidal shape.

I cut through those lines on the bandsaw and used the angled edge of one leg as a guide to pare away to the same 75º angle where they will join the seat

Then I drew the holes on the seat, on both sides of it as the holes need to have also that same 75º angle.

Then I inserted an hexagonal rod on my colum drill and I set the base at the 75º angle required to make the holes for the tenons.

Continuation:
I drilled holes near the corners to use them as a guide when chiselling away the wood to make the square holes for the tenons.

I used the angled edge of the legs as a guide again to pare away the sides of the holes at the right angle.

Once the holes were finished I rounded the corners and chamfered the edges with my router.

Then I made two cuts on each tenon to insert wedges. I also made holes at the bottom end of the cuts to prevent splitting

Mounted the legs holding them down with clamps so that they would penetrate to the very end of the tenon and be at the right angle. Then I inserted the wedges.

Once the glue was dry, I flush cut the portruding ends of the tenons and sanded the top, and this is the result. After I applied one coat of tung oil and that's all. Sorry I do not have pics of the finished result.

Very nicely done, Toni! Simple, functional, and attractive. I'd never heard of Samanguila. A Google search led me to this site, where I got stuck for awhile looking at all the goodies. :D

Funny that it took you there, maderas Barber that is one of the wood suppliers I buy wood from. One of the problems I have here is that not all wood suppliers sell to amateur woodworkers, they only sell to professionals, sometimes I managed to pass like if I was one, but they request your VAT number on each purchase. What pisses me off is that even if they sell to private people, if you are not a pro woodworker, you do not get the discounts they get.

Wonderful job. Good material choice. Love the wedged tenons for a wet-area piece; beautiful to look at and solidly functional. Great job on the journal of how-to as well. I really enjoy seeing how others do things. So much of what I do has been learned from others willing to take the time to share.
