Soss hinges

I have used both the barrel and the invisible/concealed hinges. They work great and quality is top notch. Layout and accurate drilling/mortising is key. For the invisible/concealed hinges, I have always used templates and guide bushing .. both purchase from SOSS and some home made. Hope this helps.
Same experiences here. Properly fitted they work great, and are invisible. Little on the pricey side, though.

I used to use Soss brass barrel hinges in some of my jewelry boxes along with either fancy jack chain or brass lid stops.

They were easy to install as long as you accurately positioned stops so that the holes in the lid and body matched. I found that as the wood swelled and shrank due to humidity on occasion they would work themselves loose. I started putting a drop of glue on the serrations of the barrels to keep them in place.

Woe be unto you if a little wood chip happened to get between your stop and the part you were drilling. Ain't no way to get them to fit after that.

This never happened to me.
