99% sure it's weedwacker string.

Source... extensive weed wacker experience.

I'd use a glove for either, weed wacker string isn't gentle.

Barb wire tends to sound a bit more like this..

There's a fellow at the Knoxville Market Square Farmer's Market there's a fellow who plays a saw with a bow.... most of his music sounds like a funeral dirge.

Interesting thing is sometimes he will team with a guy on a metal drum like they use in the Caribbean. Interesting sound, calypso and a funeral dirge.
