The craft and pottery space

I picked up the shelving this week when I had to run to KC.

I started assembly of the shelf supports over lunch. The cross supports are mortise and tenon, with blind wood pegs to hold them together.

These are the Ikea Ivar 20" deep shelves. I got two sets that have 33" and 20" shelves, 6 of the shelf supports total. I'll show her how to put the pins and shelves in so she can arrange them as she sees fit.

We had a nice 72* day here today. I opened the shop up and ripped down some 1x8 planks for window jambs. I set up sawhorses and got them painted this afternoon. Just finished cutting and installing them

I need about 5 more pieces of door casing, which I’ll get in the morning. I’ll get it and the base trim painted and hopefully installed tomorrow. Will still need to caulk and do a final painting of it all once installed

Got the barn door mostly finished up, she's just going to poly it, so may not even remove the hardware. I didn't like the bottom door guide that came with it, which is floor mounted. I ordered one that is wall mounted and should be of better quality, and will arrive mid-week.

I also painted and installed the base board trim today. I still need to caulk all of the trim, fill nail holes, and touch up the paint. It's the same paint as the walls, so should go quickly.

Things left to do...
  • Patch and level the floor by the entry.
  • Build a cabinet for hiding the networking equipment.
  • Finish up the kiln lid and drill in the vent holes.
  • Drill a peep hole in one of the bricks that was replaced with a new peep hole.
  • Line the kiln room walls with metal around the kiln at least.
  • Install the mini-split (may be in the spring).
  • Install water and a sink drain to the outside (will be in the spring, as I have to dig up the main water line from the well).

We had a bin storage unit that we had bought to store kids toys in at our last house. Though it worked well for separating out all the different parts (trains, tracks, cars, dolls, etc). The grandkids have mostly out grown many of the toys that were in them. My wife was looking for a good way to be able to take pieces off the pottery wheel on their batt and place them on a cart, but also wanted some bins and such for tools and supplies, without having to get up and down to get them. So we bought a few shelves and some casters and converted it to a rolling shelf/cart.

I also installed a little pegboard on the wall next to her to hang tools on close at hand by the wheel. I'll be adding some more shelving on the wall next to the wheel also.

Ordered a free standing sink for her, assembled last night.

I need to make a couple of bucket Dollie’s for her to store reclaim material in. They will roll under the sink for storage.

I may setup a gravity feed water supply, temporarily, drain will just be through the wall to the ground outside for now or to a bucket.

I plan to dig up the main waterline from the well next spring to tap into, which is just behind the garage.
