The Farm Shop

How is your battle with the brown recluse spiders
I'm somewhat winning, at least I like to think so, they have become much more scarce in the garage with glue traps and spraying to keep down on the food sources there. The garage has so many openings/gaps that it's impossible to control it like I do with the shop.

I installed the fan a bit ago for circulating air between my office and the craft room. It’s a heavy little all steel unit.

I had to install it over a few bays as I didn't have electrical in the wall cavity where I wanted to install it. I left it in its original configuration for now, one fan blows in each direction, so one pulling air from the office to the craft room, the other is visa versa.

I started with my office at a balmy 73*, the craft room was at 82*, currently it's down to 78* in the craft room.

It has 5 fan speeds, and I’m currently running it on high. My decimal meter is showing 50db. Hopefully after it gets caught up I can drop the speed and sound.

I do think t will be more efficient to have both fans going the same direction and cut in the return air vents lower on the wall. The return air vent covers haven’t arrived, so trying it this way for now.

Got the blast cabinet vacuum mounted and tested it out on its first victim in a while.

I have a Spanish 1916 Mauser I’m converting from 7mm to 6.5x55 Swede. The 7mm barrel was badly pitted, and my BIL has about 5,000 rounds of 6.5x55 Swede with nothing to shoot it with.

I have a second Spanish 1916 I’m hoping to convert to 45acp as a project.

I had some 3/4” osb left over from the guest cabin roof sitting around, decided it would work fine for the end wall of the craft room as it was all the same thickness.

Spent a little time cleaning up the hardware cabinets and moving them over from the garage.

Used my third hand to help install them.

They got installed above the lathe.

Yes, once again my OCD is satisfied. ;)

Does HF have any storage boxes left? Nice organization you have goin on.
David
I did buy out two of the stores when those went on sale for $5 each. I still buy a few every trip there, but been collecting more of the larger ones lately for larger bolts, nuts, & washers. I have one filled with hydraulic parts, two with 1/2" and 3/4" pex fittings, and starting on some for misc hardware, such as hinges and clasps.

I've had some Grizzly wall wood racks sitting around for a few years, I never got them up in the old shop. Figured out a good place for them in this one and got some of my spare wood up off the floor so I can stop tripping over it.

I also ordered a couple of 16” Hurricane wall mount fans. We have a couple of the 12” ones in the house and never need to run those over Low. I think these are listed at 2000 cfm on high.

Been working on getting things out of boxes or at least somewhat put into more organized boxes this week. This front area had just a narrow isle to walk through from the door to my office earlier this week, and materials and boxes were stacked up in front of the CNC

I’ll be moving the old fridge out and finishing out the wall behind it, and getting the tool bins picked up. Since I have the hardware bins setup, I'll be moving much of my screw and fastener stash from it to the bins.

I'm kicking around the idea of building out a storage area over the last bay. I had left it open as I was considering a 2 or 4 post lift, but I think my days of automotive/mechanical work is probably over other than general maintenance.

The area would be 15' wide x 12' deep, about 180 sq ft of extra storage space. I'm estimating about $700 in material to build out the area, not including the walls/sheeting there.

As you can see we still have a lot of things that are still waiting to go either into the house (post remodel), guest cabin, the fall garage sale, and things we're not quite ready to get rid of yet.

While that pic looks quite crowded, I do have some isles between things there to still access everything on the shelves in the back. My wife is still showing up every few days and walking out with something off the shelves, like her own personal decor store. ;)

Though I do have a lot of open space now, I still have all of the following items to move over from the garage.
  • Drill Press
  • Rolling Height Adjustable Table
  • Rolling tool Cart
  • Mortiser
  • Sander
  • Planer
  • Welding Table
  • Metal Band Saw
  • Tig Welder
  • Mig Welder
  • Portable Table Saw
  • Dust Collector 2
  • Tile Saw
  • Rolling Tool Box
  • Torch Bottles

I'm also trying to figure out where sheet good storage will go. I don't tend to keep a lot of sheet goods on hand and buy them as I have projects. I've had a large scrap/sheet wood cart in the past and it became overwhelming to figure out what I had or to get it off the cart. I may consider a storage cart under or behind the CNC for less than full sized pieces, or maybe build a spot behind the wood lathe, between it and the wall to slide some sheets into on that outer corner of the craft room. I'm still pondering ideas though, if anyone has any?
