I set up inside used 4 cases of
Soda to hold my pattern and glueing up in toasty warm house is a pleasure as usually this winter I can't feel my fingers

Well the surgeons got together and perfect he pushed me up to next Thursday so Thankgod no complications I can move on with my life and start planning our summer and trip to Michigan in April
And while I was on phone with elen half the day I started very early today finished the glue up and first coat of tung oil
I never used tung oil but like the way it came out
Had a piece crack on me and couldn't get it hold back so I used my pin nailer and ca glue and got it back in place ok to the eye
There are gaps because I will never be a great intarsiast but I have fun and no one seems to notice the gaps except me
It cracked left bottom of ear where it attached to head

Mean never used oil on intarsia
I'll try to start frame Friday weather permitting as tomorrow it's presurgical testing
I just went thru it all last week but they are making me do it again

This piece is looking real good! I doubt Sherlock Holmes himself could find the crack on that ear unless he was told about it.

And as an FYI, the Minwax "Tung Oil Finish" is simply a wipe-on varnish with some type of oil in it. That oil may or may not be actual tung oil, but the finish when cured looks a lot like a pure tung oil finish. (Except it cures a LOT faster than pure tung oil.)

thats a thing with intarsia, if something breaks, a reglue of the piece seems to be a part of the pattern. if the pins were visible from front, I couldnt have used them.

Everything is dry to touch so I put it together but did not glue piece to backboard nor attach to frame
I'll let it dry overnight
Cherry frame
Maple backboard
16x16 frame
Used 2 coats of poly spray over tiger and backboard
Shop will be closed tomorrow by noon and I might not be back out there for at least 2-3 weeks

My children both said they are taking it
But I had an empty cleat on my wall and it's hung so they are out of luck for now
I tried to go out this morning and start cleanup but the wind chill is minus 10 and dropping all day long so I might be forced to spend the day with elen
I'm happy the kids are coming over tomorrow because with temps expected wind chills minus 20 nonshopntime only superbowl
