What are Your Thoughts?

It's not something I'd do, but he likely couldn't have planed that workpiece with that planer in any other fashion. I imagine that piece was extremely heavy, not to mention the length.
 
The planer should have been flipped upside down to get the proper seating on the board to the planer lower platen. The way he is doing it, the planer is hanging in the cutter head. I understand that the board is pressed against the platen - but it would be better upside down.

Agreed.

I've done somewhat similar with a Dewalt 733, on a dolly, on the floor. Dolly only needs 2 casters centered under the cutterhead. Slicker than you'd think ...
