Who can tell me what kind of wood this is? I know it's oak but what kind?

Looks very much like a white or maybe red oak to me, or a mix of the two.

I'd also vote oak, as for whether it's white or red.. does an offcut let you blow bubbles in a glass of water? If so it's red.

Agree with, Darren, on both, red and white oak.
If there is red oak, do not use it for outdoor furniture.
Red oak will rot, in that environment. White oak is much better.

Set a sample on end in a small amount of water. If it wicks it up its Red Oak. As far as going by looks I have seen a lot of Red Oak that has the same color as White Oak
