Yellowheart

There are some species of wood of which one might be curious as to where the name came from. Yellowheart is not one of those species.:)

I was experimenting when I turned this one. I wanted fairly thin walls but a wide rim. I wasn't sure I liked it at first--it still isn't a favorite, but hopefully someone will grab it at my show next weekend.

Finishing this one was easy compared to some. Three coats of Danish Oil and a Beall buff was all it took to get a good shine.

Yellowheart has a chatoyance to it that is hard to capture with a camera. These pictures show just a hint of it. 6" x 2".

Ooh...I like that one a lot. I've used yellowheart in cutting boards before, so I agree about the chatoyance. It's subtle, but real pretty.

I thought I had replied to this thread already but I guess not. Anyway, that is a superb bowl, Mark. I've never turned yellowheart but it sure is a beautiful wood and color. The rim shape adds some pizazz to it, too.
