Here are two spalted oak bowls. The wood sat in my shop for over two years before I put it on the lathe, and it was dry enough to turn start to finish.

This one is about 8" x 4". A knot blew out while turning it. Maybe the hole should increase its value, eh?;)

...and this one is about 9.5" x 4". It had a crack which I could not turn away, so I filled it with CA/coffee grounds.

Finish is a BLO-DO-poly sequence; Beall buffed.

Comments welcome.

Wow Mark those are great!!

I usually run from oak because it cracks so bad but you sure showed that wood who is boss.

Good job.

Ain't that the truth.

Mark, I have no idea how you kept that wood two years without it cracking all to heck but it sure turned out pretty. That color is beautiful and the spalting really accents it well. Thanks for showing.

I sealed the end grain. At the time I did not have any Anchorseal on hand but had some yellow glue that was near expiration, so I put it to good use. Obviously, even that could not prevent the one crack in that second bowl.
