Turned this last night, out of a chunk of firewood so i'm hoping that it wont move.... we shall see... anyway its maple, 5 1/4 dia 1 high and foot is 1 3/4 and the rim is 1/8 but the bottom is thinner... not quite sure how thin... but thin... so yup, what do ya think?? oh poly on the outside and mineral oil + beeswax on inside.... so, would you call it a plate or a bowl??

Ben in Japan there is a traditional plate/bowl for serving Sushi rice or other dishes that have the (sushi) pickled rice in it. Yours looks the same. For the life of me though I can't remember the name now. Will have to ask the wife.

Just asked the wife, she told me it is called a Ohitsu. Traditionally it is made from Japanese cypress and is used to make Sushi rice.
