SWWRN (she who will remain nameless) new acronym! put a plant on a cherry step-stool that I made at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.

Oil and wax finish.

Put a coaster under that please

SWWRN oh it is all right, it is wrapped in foil

Me (stupid me) OK

Well you know the rest, the plant was moved and there is a big ring on the top of the bench. It has been several weeks and the ring hasn't gone away.

So, do I just sand the whole thing down and start again?

Should I try the oil first?

Am I likely to be stuck with the ring for eternity?

Want to get this repaired so SWWRN can revert to LOML

Thanks for the advice

Jay

jay, try stripping the wax with mineral spirits, let the piece dry completely, then lightly scuff with 220 or finer paper, re-oil and see if the ring is gone....usually it`s in the wax..(if you`re lucky)

If the ring is black, it is probably in the wood, and you are in for refinishing. If the ring is white, it is probably in the finish. Sometimes alcohol will mix with the water component, and help it dry out, but I would first remove the wax as Tod suggested.
