I trust I haven't posted these pics before. I just completed these 2 blanket boxes prior to Christmas for 2 gand daughter sisters.
nice chests mac,Hi Larry; well it's apparent you know it's hard. On the Janka scale (measure of wod hardness) it ranks near the top. It planes, sands, and finishes easily and beautifully. One thing to look for carefully if edge gluing is colour matching in the yellow tones. It doesn't seem to be the same as matching grain on oak or ash or other hardwoods.how was the locust to work with?
Sorryfully, I only have 1 - 10' X 11" board left from 11 boards I had. Plus of course a lot of shorts etc.
Hi Matt; the hinges are LV item # 00H52xx (depending on finish) non-mortise. They are only 1/16" thick and sit beautifully on the edge of the carcase and on the lid. Rather than regular screws they are attached with machine screws which entails drilling and tapping the holes for much greater holding strength.Very nice chests. I like that you used butterfly hinges, I may use them on my next chest. Did you mortise for the hinges or just attach them flush?
Nope, you haven't posted them here. I would have remembered seeing such a pretty pair of blanket boxes/chests. Great looking wood, and excellent workmanship.I trust I haven't posted these pics before...
