Made from a block of Ash. The inner cube can not be removed from the outer cube.
As always comments and or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice looking cube Les.

Hmmm, try this one. :D

The block is 2.5" x 2.5" x 2.5". ;)
The inner block is about 1.25" x 1.25" x 1.25".
The little block is less that .75" x .75" x .75".

This was a gift made by a great friend, John Dumont of Cape Gerardeau, MO. He actually brought it to me here in Hawaii last year on his vacation (from retirement, LOL).

I'm thinking he said it was Poplar.

Aloha, Tony

It sure helps when I include the picture, huh?

That looks great. Even with the poor looking ones I made over the weekend people have commented on them and are wanting one for themselves. Hopefully I'll be able to get a large forstner bit (~2") and make the cube within the cube within the cube. Who knows, I might even be able to sell enough of them to be able to buy another forstner bit. ;)

Les,

What are the dimensions of your cubes?

Upon closer measurement I find that John made the one I have as follows.

The large cube is 2 5/8". The holes are 1 3/4".

The center cube is 1 5/16". The holes are 7/8".

The little cube is 11/16". The holes are 3/8".

(I wish I knew how he did it.)

Aloha, Tony

I'm still betting it is the same technique as putting a wood arrow through small holes drilled into a bottle.
BTW, this thread is somebody else's gig, I won't say how unless he does.

The instructions and design by Jock Holmen can be found in the September 2007 issue
of American Woodworker Magazine.
You used to be able to download the instructions on their Website, but I just looked
and don't see the download any more?

This Outer Cube measures 2-7/8" and the Inner Cube measures 1-1/2".
and is done with a Standard 2" Forstener to start the holes and then
a 2" Forstener bit with the bottom bit removed to eliminated the hole
into the Inner Cube.
