Its Mulberry your give away is you said it looked like walnut Mulberry turns chocolate brown but is golden or yellow when cut.

i wondered about that jay,, but this stuff is yelo big time when its planned.. and the brown comes after its out side for some time.. how hard is mulberry?

Yep thats what it does and it is a member of the hedge family (Bois D'ark)

There are several species that are rather yellow when freshly cut or planed but Sun exposure turns it brown (or mellows the yellow) :huh:

Ok Larry now you have worked out what it is tell us all where you managed to get it.

Seems to me the local lumber yard does not stock Mulberry around here.

Brings back some bad memories for me thinking about a Mulberry tree big enough to yield a plank that size.

i noticed it outside..

as i was driving home, at a used to be service garage..so i turned around and took another look.. yup brown wood and yup a wood shop was in there so a hour later i left with what he or i didnt know what it was

but now i can tell him what it was ...thansk folks
