This is a piece of sycamore from the lady next door. Ellie likes her eye shadow, so I figured I'd try coloring a piece of her sycamore to match. The outside is colored with various combinations of blue and purple dye, with some white pearl acrylic airbrush paint tossed in for good measure. The walls are a bit less than 1/8" thick, so there was a bit of bleed-through of the first coat of dye around the rim and in the end grain. After coloring, the inside got a coat of Formby's Tung Oil finish, then after that cured the whole thing got multiple coats of rattle-can lacquer. I left the inside a matte finish, and wet sanded and buffed the outside to a high gloss. It ended up 8 1/4" wide and 2" tall. This one was pretty much an experiment to play around with layered colors and selective sanding. It has some flaws, so it won't be for sale, but I think Ellie will like owning it.
