well folks after much deliberation hon how to cut a quilted maple slab i decided to do some box blanks from the knot end a bowl blank from the centre and that leaves an offcut to decide on later

overall i'm pleased with the figure of the maple but i think it would be better shown of on a platter.

WOW! That is some figure on both of them! Great stuff George. :thumb:

Platter might have shown off the curl a little better, but it looks great in the bowl if you ask me.

Great work on both pieces, George. I think you're right about a platter showing off the maple the best, but the bowl still shows it very well. The walnut is an excellent piece of wood, too.

Man you talk about some great looking wood i don't think you could get any better.:thumb::thumb: how was the quilted maple to work with? it just looks like if you ain't careful it could chip real bad.

it was a bit of a pain- the quilt just wants to lift no matter what you do- i eventually found a razor sharp honed gouge was the best but still allot os sanding to do.

thank you for all your comments
