Just saw this on the news...

Les Paul died. Age 94. May the shamrocks fall softly......

Aw man, he was a giant. Dunno if it made the news elsewhere, but George Fullerton (Leo Fender's partner) died not too long ago out here. Both men were part of the small group of guys who blazed a lot of new trails for us guitarists.
