My First Cutting Board

I'm in the process of cleaning the garage once again and I cam across some maple and cherry cutoffs I picked up for 25 cents each at Woodsmith last winter. I had plans to make a cutting board way back then for a Christmas gift. It got piled under stuff and I forgot about it.

Glued it up last weekend and sanded it smooth and soaked it with mineral oil this weekend. It's small, 1.25" think and 7" by just over 12", but I will be making bigger ones soon. I'm heading to Woodsmith today to find some more cutoffs...cutting boards are a fun, somewhat easy and quick project! :D

nice work Jeff! Still in the process of sorting out the FIL's shop, but he's got about 7 large boxes of cutoff's around, so might have to do some of those ourselves.

Thanks Daren and John!

I found a bunch of scraps last night tucked in a corner while cleaning a little more...an end grain board is in the future!

I was wondering if you were going to go end grain eventually.

I just found a glued up cutting board blank in my shop last night, I need to cut one section apart and re-glue it, but I just saved myself a bunch of work on a wedding gift I have to make.
