I currently have a 14" electric and was looking for a more powerful chain saw and looking at other electric (Sthil etc-). Anyway a friend tonight gave me his gas powered chain saw and said it may need some TLC but has worked fine for him. I thought this may be a good thing because i have the electric one and now i have one i can take with me to cut up wood if i need to. I downloaded the manual and will start going thru it but i realize I dont know what the mixture of oil and gas is.........anybody know?
Any other thoughts on this kind of a saw ?

Pictures are below - It is a Poulan woodshark model 1975 LE

Dan,
I found what I think is a manual for you unit here:
http://www.outdoordistributors.com/pdf/AYP/AYP-MODEL-163244E-PARTS-LIST.pdf

It has the following paragraph on fuel:

FUELING ENGINE
This engine is certified to operate on unleaded
gasoline. Before operation, gasoline
must be mixed with a good quality synthetic
2-cycle air-cooled engine oil designed to be
mixed at a ratio of 40:1. Poulan/Weed Eater
brand synthetic oil is recommended. A 40:1
ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2 ounces of oil
with 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline. Included
with this saw is a 3.2 ounce container of Poulan/
Weed Eater brand synthetic oil. Pour the
entire contents of this container into 1 gallon of
gasoline to achieve the proper fuel mixture.
DO NOT USE automotive or boat oil. These
oils will cause engine damage. Whenmixing
fuel follow the instructions printed on the
container. Always read and follow the safety
rules listed under HANDLE FUEL WITH
CAUTION.

Hope that helps, Wes

Gas Chainsaw Question

Dan,you have a pretty good little saw there.A lot of folks knock poulan, but I think there one of the toughest little saws out there.Just make sure you keep the air filter clean in it and if you go out in the woods,be sure and take an extra chain,or two with you and don't cut with a dull chain,as that shortens the life of the saw.You can get the two chain pack for about 20 bucks at walmart.

as has been said..... keep the chain sharp! if the chain does not cut! take it off and turn it around because it is on wrong....... I know!! stupid me! and I have cut wood for most of my life.. and I am OLD!:rofl:
