Whoa there little truck whats that hey someone's cuttin down a tree quick turn around. Hey there fella what kind of tree is that? It's a locust tree. Do you know what the owner is going to do with the wood. He burning it why. I was hoping to get a piece or 2 for turning. I got a nice chunk from a big limb. So is this any good for turning?

Yes it is...it's free right? ;)

Seriously though...locust is good for turning, but it can get REAL hard once it drys out. I usually turn it to final shape and hope for the best by putting it in paper bags and check on it every few days. If the bag is damp, I put it in a fresh one. Post some pics when you turn something with it.

Even dried, high of speed as safe, sharp tools, light cuts, it will turn beautifully. It is one of the woods when dry that can put shavings on your arm hot enough to wake you up! Yellowish, sometimes orange, beautiful wood.
