You'd be pleasantly surprised how handy it is, and not just for hollowing. Bowls, spindle work, sanding, anything. My remote switch is in a magnetic box that will stick anywhere on the lathe. I quite often put mine on the bed somewhere near the tool rest, or on the tailstock. Even though the main switch is nearby on the headstock, I find it handier to have the remote switch even closer to where my hands are. When I've turned oversized things off the end of the bed, I've put the remote on a cabinet/bench that's right next to the lathe. Like I said, I use mine more than the main switch.
